Head-in-the-sand stuff from RTE. “Exceptional weather” = means months of climate-change-driven heatwaves, but somehow RTE seems baffled that trolley numbers are high. Extreme heat doesn’t stop being dangerous because we call it a “great summer”. This is climate denial by euphemism.

Utrecht has the world’s largest bicycle parking facility, with space for 12,500 bikes. Some say that’s not enough. Dublin’s Connolly and Heuston have nothing remotely close to that level of provision. That’s the difference between treating the bike as transport and treating it as an afterthought.

Devastatingly accurate. I walk my 11 year old in the morning and we regularly witness speeding, distracted driving, red light breaking, pedestrian crossing infringement, driving on footpaths and more. I have been threatened by motorists while still holding her hand. It's out of control.
Extracted text from the article.
It’s tempting to reply that I walked to school in Norway, in a semi urban area, from the age of seven years old. The majority of the over 2.5 km route each way did not have a footpath. It did however have a low speed limits and lots of speed bumps. And perhaps most importantly: children walking to school, or wherever they wanted, was an accepted road user group. That is not the case in Ireland it seems.
