My first published story set in #LimerickCity had to feature Georgian Limerick. I love the quiet, steady pacing of this story, as Oskar navigates the city, forever a stranger in his new home but no longer belonging to where he came from either. mrbullbull.com/newbull/fict...

Oskar is woken by the slamming of doors as people from the floors below him leave for work. The noise echoes up the wide staircase of the Georgian building to where he lies under two duvets in a bed that isn’t quite long enough for his six-foot-three frame.

When he returns to the main room, he pulls open the heavy orange curtains beside his bed so he can roll his morning cigarette, but he doesn’t light it until he has a cup of black coffee beside him on the windowsill. There isn’t much to see but he likes to start his day here, looking at the sky and clouds, and the patchwork of added-on toilets, kitchens and fire escapes that jut out from the rear of the other Georgian buildings around him. The pleasing symmetrical facades they present to the city dissolve ungainly into clutter at their rears, where there are fewer eyes to see or care.

Oskar has no idea who owns the house. He pays his rent in cash every week at the front desk of a property management company three streets over. He doesn’t mention the fact that the bathroom window will no longer close fully because the lintel is subsiding or that only one ring on the electric cooker works. In turn, they take his money and never mention raising the rent, which he knows is lower than anywhere else in the city.

Shame on #UEFA & the #FAI for this. Disappointing that more players didn't step up with Gavin Bazunu but not letting UEFA/FAI off the hook by blaming them.

Frame from Simpsons episode in the far future showing an elderly Homer and grown up Bart outside a movie theater.
Text changed to read
'Well I'll be, Ireland v Israel highlights'
'What was the score in that one?'
'I still don't fucking care Dad, let's see something else'

Statement - Gavin Bazunu

Representing my country means everything to me. I have the utmost respect for every single one of my team mates, the Manager, his staff and the Irish people

However I have reached a decision that I have hot taken lightly. I am a man of strong faith and try my best to be a person of character and principle therefore 1 feel it would be wrong to participate in the upcoming fixtures against Israel.

My decision is based purely upon my personal belief that the killing of innocent people is wrong.

It is important to note that my stance is not in opposition of the Israeli people or the Jewish community but against the atrocities in the region.

There are few times where you get a chance ir ife to stand up for something bigger and strongly believe that this is one of them

That Ed Sheeran song where he tries to meet up with his old mates but they all have some reason not to feels a lot more lived in now 'Oh hi Ed, yeah, no, I'd love to it's just I've am, uh, moved to the coast...'

Ed Sheeran lyrics
One friend left to sell clothes, one works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone, one's brother overdosed
One's already on his second wife, one's just barely getting by
But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home

Beoga weren't just a support band but were acting as Sheeran's band for the tour. Playing these huge venues with an artist as big as this was career-changing for these acts. To sacrifice that, while acknowledging that it's not about them but the Palestinian people, is impressive & touching❤️🇵🇸

My favourite R.E.M. album and one of the most underrated albums of the 90s. I remember like it was yesterday finishing my early split shift & walking into town to get it (Our Price, Ashford, Kent). Should have slept before the evening shift but just listened to it instead. I'm so rock'n'roll

New rule: All transit planners must walk to bus stops with whiny children. Same requirement for transfers. We aren’t sending the well-behaved, “I’ll read my book” kids either. We are going to send the feral, “can I jump off this?” Kids. Or siblings who are fighting, that could work, too.

I understood excise duties were placed on goods to try and reduce usage due to their harmful effects? And subsidies provided to public services that benefit the wider population. Surely subsidising fossil fuels and increasing bus fares is completely backwards?

That's a great photo of #Limerick Castle - I wonder where it was taken from? Notes to visitors - Limerick is fantastic and has one of the best urban river walks anywhere - the buildings on the left and right do not exist - the cathedral does not have a steeple - the bridge is somewhere else

Please read. A superb dissection of how avoiding momentary inconvenience for people in cars is generally weighted higher than the lives of people on bikes or just walking. And PPE discourse is just distraction, you cannot logically be for mandatory helmets and against segregated lanes.

Even on a damp night it's lovely to just walk up and have a look at him. Every other country would celebrate someone like Daniel O'Connell. Limerick have him locked away with no safe way of getting out there. This whole area should permanently be made into a public space. #LiberateTheLiberator
