September continued the extraordinary run of much warmer than average months here in NE Dorset. Meanwhile it had 51.2% of the average rainfall, while sunshine was almost exactly average (100.2%). It felt rather cloudy due to having 125 hours less than the very sunny August.

The nights draw in at pace now...we're losing several minutes of daylight each day, and we're closer to the shortest day of the yr/winter solstice than the longest day/summer solstice... BUT, while we hold onto relatively warm weather it makes all the difference doesn't it?

This past week forecast models have been toying with the idea of some exceptional warmth for the time of year to end Sep &/or begin Oct. Latest ECMWF det. run went all in for early Oct. This would be on par with the extraordinary start to Oct 2011.

The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

We're approaching a period of a week or so where relatively short timescale factors influencing weather patterns are expected to conflict with the influence of the v. strong El Niño event. This introduces uncertainty which is very apparent in the GFS ensemble - highly scattered.
