A billboard for Chlöe Swarbrick, located handily just behind a billboard for the Baby Expo (a trade fair for infant gear, not a matter for child labour laws), such that it reads “Chlöe Swarbrick, BABY”!

The Welly motorway billboard has been artfully adjusted again. Spotted today:
An election billboard, which says ‘9 new taxes’ on the left. The wording on the right has been altered from ‘No new taxes’ so that it now reads ‘110 new taxes’

“The answer to ‘Where’s the money coming from?’, that neoliberal catchcry raised against every demand to improve the welfare state - not to mention paying for infrastructure or addressing climate change - is pretty obvious. It comes from ending poverty.” A great read from @simonbwilson.bsky.social

“There must be a degree of cognitive dissonance involved in announcing new roads at a time when fewer and fewer of us can afford to drive. The current oil price spike will not last forever, of course, but to talk grandly of bigger, faster roads in this economic climate seems tin-eared.”

Also this illustrates just how badly we need debates between putative coalition partners. National announces a regressive, punitive benefit policy. NZF says it's a step towards fascism. ACT says it's insufficiently regressive and punitive. Put all 3 parties on stage and force them to talk about it.

Translation of this chart: people with $20,000+ in spare change are about THREE times more likely (2.89) to support the current political situation, as to be interested in helping change it. Are billionaires immoral? Dunno, but the data sure suggests the casually wealthy may be a tad biased. #nzpol

Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?
4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!

Impossible to invent something as absurd as the Minister for Cracking Down On Truancy And School Lunches not knowing it is the school holidays www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Oct 6, 2026 2:56 PM

'Why are you not in school?' It’s school holidays

David Seymour stopped to speak to some children at Velocity Valley in Rotorua, giving them a piece of advice.

“Don’t trust politicians,” he said. “Are you a politician?,” they questioned.

After the three children asked if he was going to be on the news and waved at the cameras, he said: “hey, one question, how come you guys aren’t at school?”

It’s school holidays, they said.

Seymour said they could still go into school, but the kids didn’t seemed thrilled by that idea.

“No, it’s ok,” they said before walking away.

A petite black cat, with a fetching white chest patch, bright golden eyes and impressively cobby build (she’s half British Blue, and half opportunistic tabby scoundrel, hence a bargain and a rogue) caught mid-way through sharpening her lethal claws on a favourite midcentury armchair, the little beast. Her ears are back and she has an unblinking stare: an absolutely impenitent recidivist, already plotting her next attack on the furniture, even though there are perfectly good and heavily used scratching trees right outside. Those are different, apparently.
