I’m in Lytton, British Columbia, a village that burned to the ground in about 20 minutes in a 2021 firestorm. We’ve spent this summer surrounded by more wildfire, again—bigger, faster, more violent events than ever. Our leaders have done absolutely nothing to adapt.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said they “didn’t see the fire” that tore through the neighbouring community of Collins “until it was too late,” due to a strain on resources with many fires burning in the area. The Ford government budgeted half of what it spent on wildfires last year for 2026.

I've reported on Musk for around 8 years. I've co-authored a book on him. I don't think folks understand the rate of his wealth accumulation. Shortly after he helped elect Donald Trump in Nov 2024, his net worth was around $350 billion. That net worth has nearly tripled in less than two years.

In 2023 I reported Canada lacked evidence backing industry's claim Canadian LNG exports could lower global emissions by displacing coal. They knew domestic LNG would pollute, so they went digging for proof it could lower it elsewhere. As Matt writes here, our deal with Germany isn't displacing coal.
