You can just do that. This comment doesn't make sense because you can just choose to do it. It's like when people say "back in the day I could just go to the mall with friends and we had a great time." You can still just do that, you're just choosing not to.

Hardcore impressed, probably. Fully cut off from my narcissistic parents, moved to the other side of the world to teach game programming at a university before I even hit 30, finally comfortable engaging in the furry community, and my first long-term relationship is still going well.

I have to vehemently disagree with this post I saw. I do not believe fascism is "part of human nature", it is an end-point of capitalism (and by extension, class-society as whole). It is not a natural phenomenon to who we are, it is a consequence of a system created and held by our ruling class. 🧵

I have never and will never use AI. I am thankful I work a job where I am not forced to and likely would never be. If you are forced to use it for part of your job, you can always minimize it as much as possible. And if you started using it in your personal life, it is never too late to stop.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAl is.
GenAl is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.
But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

Bluesky Elder
Not just that but Tolkien also said, "Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made."
Sound familiar?
Misha Loren
Just now
The analogy of the One Ring for GenAl is quite powerful, especially when you consider how it seduces users with the promise of easy power. That quote about evil being unable to create anything new feels particularly relevant to the way these models remix existing human art. It really makes you wonder if we're trading our creative soul for a shortcut.

There you have it.
so, (barely) reading between the lines of what Twitch's staff said:

1) they were forced by Amazon to add the AI training setting and to make it opt-out, because the overlords know perfectly well there's no reason anyone would ever opt-in

2) the actual Twitch staff who run Twitch do not like this and are of the same mind about it as all of you

3) Taking the time to opt-out, even if you don't really stream, gives them data to take to meetings with their overlords to prove that Twitch users dislike AI and pushing it too hard will drive people from the site.

There is a GDC talk where a designer from Ubisoft talked about their change from subtitles being disabled to enabled by default. They found that in both cases, ~20% of users changed the setting. The takeaway should be that you are expected by companies to never opt-out of anything.

A screenshot of a tumblr post.

From user radiqueer:
Human relationships are not transactional but they are reciprocal, which I think many of you with your ‘i don’t owe anyone anything’ shtick are too happy to forget.

From user aromanticduck:
Transactional: everything has to be exactly 50/50 all the time, pay me back for the £5 sandwich or buy me something worth exactly £5, I refuse to make an effort for you if there’s nothing in it for me

Reciprocal: you were there for me when I needed help, and I’m going to do the same for you, it doesn’t matter if one of us needs more or is capable of less, because the point is not equivalent exchange but mutual care

Generative AI is not only fundamentally based on the rejection of consent, but also *standards*. Artists have been micromanaged and hounded over individual pixels, academics fighting to defend every minute detail of their thesis, etc, and then are tossed away in favor of the get shit wrong machine.

It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Hi, thanks for posting! We do appreciate you thinking of us even though we have to moderate.

Our stance on all AI generated content (Images, Video, Voiceovers, and whatever else LLM based AI gets up to in the future):

At best, they are approximations of street fighter characters as the AI has no clue what it is trying to create. Because of this, there is no street fighter content so they are not allowed. (rule 1)

Also, they aren't allowed per our source rule. As AI sources cannot be tracked, we must assume that they use uncredited sources in the learning data. (rule 5)

Finally, AI images, video, text, and voiceovers are barely any different than posting a screenshot of a google search. The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam (rule 3).

Because of these reasons, AI art and other AI content is not allowed.

If you would like to contact the moderators about this removal, you can do so here.

Be sure to use Al when making your next, I don't know, meal plan, for example. Definitely do not call your friend who loves to cook and ask her for her favorite recipes or tips or ways to save time making meals, because you will end
up talking for longer than you had hoped, hearing, perhaps, about her father's cancer diagnosis or how lonely she's been or even what she's planted in her spring garden and then lost with the early frost.
