Yes, they are, but $20 for 1 search doesn't fit any model. 8x H100 right now lands at $22.32 per GPU-hour, and that's all-inclusive. Those compute providers pay for capex, running costs, and get a profit. That's an hour of compute with a gigantic LLM. A search doesn't take an hour.

Out of curiosity, what company has a search product that costs $20 per search? Just taking Exa.ai as an example, they sell $4/1k searches.

At its base it's just text generation, but it gained a business case when they came up with something called "tool calling". So you type in create me a quarterly report, and it can read documents and produce new ones, instead of just giving you a wall of text back that was fully made up.

Companies past a certain size can't pay a monthly subscription, they have to pay as they go. So, every month the company tops up the account, and then people use that. Problem is when there's no usage limits in place, like this case.

Visual ground detection of stealth aircraft is relatively trivial, there's people on YouTube that have done it. Thing is, you typically also want to shoot enemy aircraft down. Probably in a theatre where you haven't setup a bunch of ground camera stations. Also the enemy moves, so you need precision

These things ask for permission so often that it trains the user into allowing anything. Before Anthropic rolled out the auto-mode classifier that just has the cheaper models decide if something is allowed, people just allowed literally everything. It's so bad.

Yeah nobody is going to be buying most of this stuff, they have like 8 GPUs on one massive board as SXM4 modules, and they'll eat 2-3kW when running. You'd need like 4U of rackspace and a dedicated outlet for one box if you wanted to homelab it. Also have fun with cooling.
