Kellogg turns against Trump. Former US special envoy for Ukraine, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, says Ukraine should continue striking Russian oil refineries. “This is war. They are attacking correctly,” he said, backing Kyiv’s continued campaign against Russian refining infrastructure. #Ukraine

ZELENSKYY: At this very moment, when we are talking about peace, America gives Russia the opportunity to export diesel — that's millions, billions. It all goes toward the war against people, against Ukraine, against all of us.

Trump announces that the U.S. will buy Russian oil. This is just a few weeks after Trump signed the Lindsey Graham Russia Sanctions bill, which authorized him to place 100% tariffs on countries that are the biggest importers of Russian oil/gas. Are we going to tariff ourselves now?

This is exactly right. When Trump - in the one out of a thousand times - gets misread or misinterpreted, he *runs with it*, because it makes his critics look obsessive and stupid. Firehosing people until they freak about everything is the strategy, and it works.

His argument is very poor -- a totally false dichotomy, esp. given how he & Hegseth have completely messed up the war. But commentators who misinterpret his argument in an obviously stupid way will never convince a voter still on the fence. Attack him on the substance; it's a big enough target. 2/2

Am I the only one thinking it's unwise to (wilfully?) misinterpret Trump's mangled English, e.g. in the way this quote has been? In "this is a small price to pay", "this" obviously refers to the increase in oil prices. People are sharing it as if "this" referred to Iran nuking LA or San Diego. 1/2

Just fascinating
One woman returns to the question at the very end of the conversation, wanting to share her puzzlement: “I now started to think—indeed, why are there now coalitions against Russia everywhere …? That did not use to be the case …” Almost no one connects the perceived European “antagonism” to Russia with Europe’s reaction to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine or any other actions by Russia. “I don’t know why the Finns are so antagonistic to us. Maybe they never got over the fact that we took over Karelia in 1940”, opines one respondent. Others complain about their positive attitude towards the Baltic states and these states’ negative attitude towards Russia: “I don’t know why they [the Baltic states] are so adversarial, most probably they were ordered to be like that”, concludes another participant. Confusion, propaganda, wilful ignorance and lack of curiosity probably all play their role in shaping Russians’ perceptions of their country and its external relations. And it also helps explain why the war in Ukraine still seems distant to many in Russia—and why Europe’s own reaction to the war is overwhelmingly seen as negative, almost unfair.

Russia is ruled by animals. To the extent the Russian population supports this savagery, I don't hold them in very high regard either. Nor the Trump admin, who keep fawning over the Kremlin monsters; or the European tankies, who couldn't recognise blatant imperialism if it bombed them in the eye.

*This* is the fact that Grok's 'MechaHitler' and 'white genocide' episodes made blatantly clear. LLMs are not neutral truth-tellers; they are trained to provide biased answers in line with their owners' interests. This is all the more insiduous when subtle enough to go unnoticed.

Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.
