Wasn’t the period covered by the charges when Man City decided to go all-in on creating an environment built in Pep’s image? Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain were both hired in 2012, and that laid the groundwork for recruiting Pep a few years later.

I think the reality, though, is that the PL has always seen itself as a commercial and not a regulating entity, while the NBA commissioners have, especially since Stern, seen themselves as real policemen. I’m not sure the PL has, or even wants, that kind of all-encompassing authority.

Yeah I was thinking about whether this structurally makes a difference but I’m not sure it does. I think it was Zach Lowe made the point about the Clippers findings that the reason the league was able to come down so hard is that the other 29 owners really saw this as a breach…

It’s going to be fascinating to watch the play out when comparing it to the Clippers punishment. My impression is that the NBA is a much stronger league and that, despite making similar threats to appeal and go to the courts, Ballmer basically had to take the punishment.

Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.

this is a bit of an obsession of mine especially here in charlottesville. the cost of commercial real estate is prohibitive if you want to experiment and the city seems categorically opposed to small lots and small units that could allow people to start businesses without a huge capital investment
