Saw a thread of folks discussing that they hate rust now because its strong typing and detailed error messages make it too well suited to LLM-driven development (and also, incidentally, humans) Is there going to be a wave of languages whose design goal is to be as obscure as possible to confuse AI?

Pro-AI and anti-AI folks agree on this, but draw opposite conclusions: Anti-AI folks say this makes LLMs worthless because all they do is automate the easy part Pro-AI folks would say that automation frees up our time to focus on the interesting problem of defining what an app should actually do

We told everyone that programming wasn't the hard part, but no one believed us. The reason LLMs can excrete sort-of-okay code is that sort-of-okay code has been a commodity good for 20+ years. Then, just like now, the bottleneck was understanding what people actually want.

This is why integrating machine learning everywhere without first having a deep understanding of the training data is a huge problem. Machine learning approximates training data. If your training data is biased, so will your model. Mandate by law that LLM training sets must be made public.

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case. "My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.

I've written an LRUDiskCache to complement my LRUCache library. Should I release it as a separate library, or add it to the existing LRUCache library? They have little code in common, but putting them in the same library means I could add a common interface, or a hybrid disk/memory cache

I mostly ignored the Xcode 27 betas (mainly due to the barely-usable Device Hub) so I didn't realize the passive-aggressive prompts to drop support for iOS < 15 that you get when submitting apps is being backed up by Xcode 27 refusing to compile apps at all unless you bump the deployment target 😧

RealityKit is such a disappointing replacement for SceneKit: Not concurrency-safe; Materials/Meshes have to be created on main thread or it crashes (WTF?); No camera controller out of the box; you can't even implement the classic Hello Triangle demo with it because it doesn't support vertex colors 😒

In this age of AI, the most important human skill to have is _taste_. If you used an LLM to help make your app or funny Youtube video or whatever I don't care. But if it _looks_ like an AI made it, and if you either can't see that or you don't care, then what value are you adding exactly?

I've been writing an LRU disk cache mechanism for my current iOS/Mac OSS side project. It's one of those problems that seems simple on the face of it, but has a lot of nuance once you get into it. Anyone else tackled this before? Any non-obvious wisdom to share?

Apple ending support for x86 was inevitable (it's been 6 years) but it still saddens me. Like the dropping of PPC, and the Classic environment before it, each one of these transitions represents an incalculable loss of history. So many apps and games that run perfectly fine but will never be updated
