What in the AI slop is the scale and left axis of this graph? $475 and $312 are bigger than $938? $698 is less than $400?

Most of them! I even enjoyed reading and had excellent English teachers, but I can't tell you how many books I read as an adult and thought "fuck I was dumb when I was 14".

The tech CEOs know that all the nonsense that has been promised is nonsense. They know the burn rate of money is not sustainable, and they won't have AGI before the money runs out, so they are trying to figure out how to slow the spending without upsetting investors. It's marketing all the way down.

with the way things are going I think it’s possible the money spent on ai coding tools becomes broadly distributed between small firms and local models while the frontier labs become more and more obsessed with burning money to keep their pet machine intelligences “alive”

Some of us are trying to change things where we live, and to be real? Most days it feels completely futile already, and that's before being lectured by an insider of the most ineffectual political party since the Know Nothings. But we still try, because it's the right thing to do.

Think about what you are saying. Nearly 40 million people voted for Kamala in states that were won by Trump, plus all the other residents who don't vote (say, children). We should be dismissive of all those people just because they can't convince people hundreds of miles away to vote differently?

Not sure how you see being so dismissive of people who are actually trying to do the work on the ground is "being awesome to everyone", but keep telling us how backwards we are from your tiny state and see how that works out for you.

Nerdluck Bang @nerdluck-bang.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
4.8 million Texans voted for Kamala and only 2.1 million in Massachusetts voted for her. But please keep being condescending and miss the entire point of the original post.

No, the point is that while a majority of people in Texas might vote for the 'bad' things, there are a greater number of people in Texas voting for the good things than in New York. So by saying "Texas is bad" you are writing off more good people than exist in New York. Hope that helps!

I wanted to argue with essentially everyone in the comments, but everyone was pretty reasonable and mostly correct. Gas grill is a tool, especially good if used frequently and/or quickly. Charcoal is usually worth the effort, but that's assuming you have the time. If you can, keep both.

I think the point is that 70% change of rain can me a lot of different things, and isn't as simple as a single multiple choice answer? Is there a particular source that YouGov is using to say that one of the answers provided is the only possible correct answer?

This is my exact origin story - being exposed to pure, unadulterated conservatism, boiled to the essence, and then juxtapose it to normal, chill people you want to hang out with, and I became a radical in College Station within 3 semesters.

From descriptions of Donald Trump, stated between 2015 and 2018, by Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina.

A race-baiting, xenophobic bigot
The Islamic State’s “man of the year”
The death of the GOP’s relationship with Hispanic voters
A death blow to the GOP’s relationship with women
The world’s biggest jackass
A wrecking ball
A salesman of fear
A politician whose ideas are gibberish
A politician who is incapable of representing a mattress company
A poor representation of a Republican
A president who is unfit for office
A president who sometimes crosses the line
A Twitter user whose tweets are sometimes beneath the office of the presidency
A man who has a blind spot

Can do the same thing on the stove with any pork products of you're looking for something faster (bacon is easiest). Just make sure to add a tart element (red wine vinegar/ apple cider vinegar) and if you are ok with spice, maybe some red pepper flakes.

Pretty sure PayPal is the bad example, as Thiel and Co haven't owned it for going on 25 years. Google, Apple, Microsoft, and other tech companies that you likely use daily are actively contributing to the growth of AI slop. But again, none of this matters, we don't "work for those companies".

Do you use Google search currently? Any Microsoft products? Then you have used AI and LLMs whether you intended to or not. This doesn't mean you work for Google or Microsoft, and certainly doesn't mean you deserve blame for the plague of AI currently underway.

There's a perverse symbolism in the legacy of White racism sheltering under the bowers of all African Americans have done for this country while patiently waiting for the chance to go back to insisting we are a drain upon their society and that they never needed us at all.
