A Crater and Its Gullies The objective of this observation is to examine gullies in a small crater. Images like this will help increase our inventory and understanding of Martian gullies so that perhaps better models can be constructed. uahirise.org/hipod/ESP_07... NASA/JPL/University of Arizona
Enhanced color cutout shows a closeup of a crater wall with two prominent and well-defined gullies. The gullies extend far down the wall from the rim of the crater, ending in sedimentary fans. The scene is less than 1 km, under 1 mile, across. (NASA/JPL-Caltech/University of Arizona)Black and white image shows a fuller view of the impact crater where three gullies are visible, extending from the rim of the crater close to the floor, ending in sedimentary fans. I don't think I have posted this here before, but a useful exercise for anyone in academia is to share their a cv of failures with students. I did that today after my student had a paper rejected. It's an important reminder that academic research is successes and failures. #AcademicSky
A list of PhD and post-doc institutions that rejected my applications and academic jobs I applied for and did not get interviews. Most of this second page is a list of places I applied to for academic jobs and was rejected. Then the beginning of journals that rejected my papers (from A-J).A continuation of journals that rejected my papers (N-S) followed by a chronological list of grant agencies that rejected proposals. Finally a list of 4 miscellaneous failures: not being able to accept a prestigious position for Science Meets Parliament, loss of an election to be a councilor for the International Society for Neuroethology, administration preventing me from representing the Royal Society of Canada on a visit to Yukon College, and a failed proposal to host the International Bioacoustics Congress in Banff, Alberta.
