📻 To celebrate College Radio Day, tune in to more than a century of college radio history. In 1906, Harvard students formed what was described as the first college radio club. By the 1920s, students were building stations and broadcasting campus events. 📚 More: blog.archive.org/2026/10/02/1... 🧵

Oct 2nd 1963 - Opening game of the 1963 World Series. After failing to convince Nurse Ratched to allow the patients to watch the game, R.P. McMurphy attempted to escape by throwing a hydrotherapy console through a window. 📽️📅 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
4 Screenshots from the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975): First, a man in a white uniform is speaking with a smirk, holding papers, with the subtitle "Today, as you may or may not know-- It doesn't matter." Second, the same man continues speaking with a more serious expression, subtitle reads "--is the opening of the World Series." Third, the man is in a bathroom, straining to lift a large fixture, showing determination. Fourth, a group of men in a room, some seated and some standing, with the subtitle "But I tried, didn't I? Least popular GOP president this century, not among all presidents. With that, I'd be curious to see how he stacks up against Obama or Biden's numbers.

I hated the send, but I really really hate the guys in the booth hating the send. It's interesting to me that the one announcer who actually won a World Series as a manager and famously was data-driven (if only for his time) thought it was fine.

I feel like for Cycle 10, STScI should announce who holds the career record for most different submitted proposals and most total submissions (including multiple resubmissions for a single proposal in the same cycle)...

Take the snark and scorn I have for Altuve for granted--I'm here to say that as a Yankees fan Ramirez was the player I least wanted to see batting in an important spot. Ortiz was overrated and roided out, Ramirez was arguably roided but a 100% legit amazing hitter. The wrong one is in the Hall.

Estimated number of JWST Cycle 6 proposals submitted vs. Eastern Standard Time today. Posted with permission from someone who may or may not come forward to take credit. ;) 🔭
plot that shows several points in a pretty linear trend that is at about 2500 a bit before noon, and is approaching 3000 at 16:20.

Andy Rivkin @asrivkin.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We think the number of JWST Cycle 6 submissions is close to, or has already passed, the Cycle 5 submissions. There are 4.25 hours to go. 🔭

We don't want to inadvertently induce anyone to violate DAPR, but if you're working on a JWST proposal you haven't submitted yet and are willing to say the proposal number you get at submission rounded to the nearest ~20, and the time you got it, we could track submission numbers. 🔭
