Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Blegh. Major case of the yawnies right now. I know I say this often, but fail to follow-through, but it might legitimately be an early bedtime for me tonight.

How to explain Dylan Faden in Control Resonant? Well, from everyone else's point of view, he basically was the Locutus of The Hiss. But, instead of having been an assimilated celebrated captain Jean-Luc Picard, he was an assimilated Eleven or maybe even Henry/One from Stranger Things.

Oof. Nothing quite like waking up in a brainfoggy migraine haze. Also, was definitely KO'd early due to purring-kitty snuggles being the single-strongest sleep-inducer known to humanity.

In all the ways the first Control has stuck with me, probably the weirdest is my unintentional adoption of The Board's affect/manner of speech/typing quirk - For writing, anyway.

Remembered that I was god-awful at the combat in the first Control game too and gave myself permission to enable assist mode in Resonant instead of just beating my head against the wall repeatedly and getting frustrated. Lets me actually have fun and get to story and exploring.

Enters room. Screams for a minute or so. Curls up and begins dozing. Refuses to elaborate.
A brown tabby cat flopped over and dozing contentedly underneath a wooden coffee table.

A thought occurs, as I see the latest discussions roll across my feed: I don't exactly listen to the freshest music of most any genre. I'm not strictly anti-country either (I live in a small town in the yee-haw zone of the world, after all, so the genre's somewhat pervasive)

LRP: additionally important to know that if you’re allergic to coconut, you’re also allergic to most activated charcoal products. Many of them are made using burned down coconut husks, but no one advertises that/it’s extremely hard to find out. So be careful this Halloween season!

Oh no. Definitely feeling like I'm in the "day before a cold fully hits" stages right now. My BIL was getting his butt kicked by a cold yesterday (and my nieces have been dealing with back-to-school bugs intermittently).

Between Pokemon Legends: ZA and Control Resonant, it seems much of my gaming this year consists of parkouring from rooftop to rooftop in a big city. (ZA was released just under a year ago, so it still counts in my mind)

The ring's whole point is to remind you "People will die in incredible pain if I stop giving a fuck about even the small, boring details of what I do" Because you *can't* grandly think about systems if you can't fucking think in the first place.

Wild thing I learned earlier today -- the phrase "This is a job for Superman" predates Superman. I found citations as early as 1909.

Realization: When The Simpsons first came on-air in 1989, the family member I was closest in age to was Maggie (I was 3 when it would have first aired). I'm now Homer's age. The show is *still* ongoing.

I have a friend that used to work for a chiro regulator group (I think it's an industry self-governing thing, like the ESRB, instead of an actual govt org). One of his work discussions produced the memetic-in-our-group phrase "...We don't neck-crack the bébé"

Part of me *really* wants him and his sycophantic cronies to reach the "finding out" part for trying this fuckery. But then, two thoughts occur: 1. It's first going to hurt a lot of people who have no effective means of removing him, short of like, total revolution, which has its own steep costs.

100%. For those unfamiliar, Van Halen had a line in their rider that essentially said “no brown M&Ms.” It was a way to see if the promoter had actually read the contract. They had a shitload of gear to tour with, so if they’re skipping one thing, it’s guaranteed they’re skipping something essential.

An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?

You know I can never resist a good accent/dialect quiz. Well, as someone from 'Berta, it's not surprising that I'd be most similar to Minnesota, as far as American dialects go, but even then, only 51%. Some of those Canadian-isms and Berta-specifically-isms do slip in there, eh?
Image of my dialect map from the mydialect.us standard language quiz.

The red areas are most similar, with a gradient to the blue areas that are least similar to how I speak.

The bluest area of the map is centred on Mississippi and Alabama, while the reddest areas are northern Minnesota, most of Washington state and Oregon, and most of the coast of California.

The text above the map reads:

"Your dialect map
Redder areas talk more like you; bluer areas least.

You talk most like someone from Minnesota - About 51% of your answers match a typical resident."

The map is titled: "MYDIALECT - STANDARD"

The gradient reference below the map has the blue end labelled with "Least like you". The red end of the gradient has the label "Most like you".

The website itself is tagged below the map: "https://mydialect.us"

Below the map there is a section:

"Cities most & least like you

Interpolated from the nearest survey responses.

Most Similar:

1. Seattle, WA (51%)
2. Portland, OR (51%)
3. San Francisco, CA (50 %)

Least Similar:

1. New Orleans, LA (41%)
2. Atlanta, GA (42%)
3. Nashville, TN (43%)"

All six cities are labelled on the map, though the text is rather small in this image.

I can (and happily will) talk at length about how delightful Midst and Unend are, but something small that's just really sticking with me in this current moment: "Journey's mercies" is an excellent fictional salutation phrase. Up there with "Long days and pleasant nights" from The Dark Tower, imo.

Huh. TIL the term "red-letter day" originates with the old (like, Roman Republic-old) practice of highlighting important calendar days in red. And the medieval practice of ornate initial capital letters in manuscript sections and section titles themselves often being written in red ink...
