People are always saying they want superhero movies to be exactly like the comics but the comics they mean never include "Reqiuem for a Hot Rod," which means I simply cannot get on board.

This is from the Los Angeles Herald Examiner (June 28 1979), a collection of reader suggestions on what to do about Skylab. Clipped for obvious reasons, but let's give it up for Jan Fields of Long Beach, you're on the blunt rotation, beaucoup merci.

Speaking of Columbo (and always speaking of comics), I mocked these up on Tumblr right about when the podcast was wrapping up. Although he's cameo'd in a few comics, it's unfortunate to say that Columbo never starred in a comic strip of his own. I'm proud of the story titles and the fake NBC brand.

The cover to Flash #123, which introduced the concept of superhero multiverses and made watching movies such a fucking headache now, and the thematically-similar Action Comics #445. It's great that the Flash one is "We gotta save that guy from a girder!" and the Superman one is "Gotta get laid!"

A man is imperiled by a falling girder and is shouting "Flash! Help me!" Two super-fast superheroes come running towards him on opposite sides of a wall replying "I'm coming!"

Lois Lane is impatiently checking her watch at the end of a long fence with duplicate Supermans flying up to her on either side. One is thinking "Just in time" and the other thinks "to keep my date with Lois Lane!"

The thing about Bob Mackie that always blew me away is how confidently he moved between glamour and comedy. There's probably no funnier single costume reveal in the history of television than Carol Burnett in their parody of Gone With The Wind wearing the curtains. "I saw it in the window ..."
