about six months ago on the old bad place, @toddedillard.bsky.social shared a meme that included a phrase somewhere along the lines of "like a bad review for God," and it immediately inspired me to write a poem. Here it is today in the Indianapolis Review; my thanks to the editors <3
Yelp! Review for God

Despite omnipotence, largely unhelpful.
Created the Tazmanian Devil
only to not allow people to pet it,
which goes against good customer service.
Entirely absent managerial style
allows both workers and customers
to run rampant in the store with no rules.
Though I admit the lack of rules quite fun
as it allowed me to steal
large quantities of strawberry-kiwi kombucha.
I asked to see a manager and an old man
told me to confess everything I’d done wrong.
What the hell, dude? And what’s with the wine
on Sunday morning anyway? I was 14.
I can only hope this other “Hell” location
I’ve heard so much about has better wifi.
Apparently I’ve been pre-banned from
the “Heaven” one for kissing boys
in the vegetable aisle here, though why
did this God fellow care about me then?
Unprofessional. Gross. Still,
4 out of 5 stars for inventing saliva between us.

"Oh rascal children of Gaza. You who constantly disturbed me with your screams under my window. You who filled every morning with rush and chaos. You who broke my vase and stole the lonely flower on my balcony.
Come back, and scream as you want and break all the vases. Steal all the flowers. Come back…Just come back.."
- Khaled Juma, a Palestinian poet from Gaza.

this is your annual reminder that more first responders & cleanup workers, who were denied PPE, have died of 9/11-related illnesses than those who died during 9/11. this is your annual reminder that 7 million people have died from COVID. we need to honor those lives too.

Marquette, Michigan's daily newspaper runs reviews of new arrivals at the local public library, and this one is sending me 😳 My book is really getting out there.
The collection of essays in author Daniel Cox’s I Felt the End Before it Came are at once fanciful and pragmatic, heartfelt and heartbreaking. In a style reminiscent of David Sedaris, Cox winds his narratives through personal history with intent, if not always ease. The lead essay, The Letter, introduces the culture of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for any unfamiliar and Cox’s relationship with the order and the people in his life he had to leave behind. These notes carry through the rest of the collection, as Cox describes experiencing Y2K with the backdrop of the Witness’ apocalyptic mindset, the challenge of continuing the relationship with his mother, and his struggle with alcoholism. I Felt the End Before it Came is a raw, personal experience, recommended for readers of Sedaris and fans of Paris is Burning.
