The most obvious fallacy in political analysis is concluding that every winning campaign did everything right and every losing campaign did everything wrong. So obviously wrong that no one defends it outright. But so many people fall into the trap anyway. All the time.

Crazy idea: Democrats should defend immigration and immigrants, run on the idea that immigrants make America great, and stop Homer Simpsoning themselves into the shrubbery every time Republicans try to demagogue it.

The ability to answer this well says everything about running as an empathetic three dimensional being in order to enact an agenda with and for people as opposed to running as an amalgam of poll-tested points to win simply for sake of doing so.

Elites once upon a time had an interest in maintaining at least the pretense of legitimacy—both for political and economic reasons. Having dismantled much of the public sphere and the democratic order, elites simply don’t care to pretend anymore.

Fun w/ Workday: I did an annual training 2 weeks ago, then got an email saying I hadn't completed it. Tech support said the problem could be: 1) I used a Mac 2) was off campus not using a VPN 3) used a browser that wasn't Chrome or Firefox 4) popups were blocked INSANE. & the reqs weren't listed.

It’s beyond frustrating that Dem leaders are obsessed with being outspent because they think money decides elections, so they’re pulling out all the stops to raise money from wealthy people, becoming even more dependent on the whims of the rich.

We cannot merely vote. We cannot merely vote in numbers so massive, MAGA is drowned in their wake. We must make it clear what are votes are for & about: a real repudiation of the whole fascist agenda not only a backlash against higher prices. Thank you Congresswoman.

Apropos of nothing, let me say this: Questioning the normative assumptions that motivate a focus on something like polarization IS NOT an anti-intellectual project. Pretending that one’s arguments or perspectives are free of normative commitments is the unserious, anti-intellectual make-believe.

Again, we can argue about what exactly to call this particular form of partially autocratic political regime, where the executive weaponizes the justice ministry & law enforcement to target his political opponents, but it’s not a full democracy.

Here's Ida B. Wells arguing after extensive investigations that Black men being a sexual threat to white women was only the excuse for lynching. That it covered consensual relationships but more often than not, lynchings were motivated by Black people being economically competitive w/ whites. #HATM

Man who has never run for office, nor likely even knocked a voters' door, offers advice to someone who has done both - and won. Man who made his living valorizing capitulation by calling it "civility" would like all others to do the same. Groundbreaking.

The Republican Party is chock full of Nazis. The government has Nazis in senior administration positions. The Republican Party’s largest donor is a neo-Nazi. David Brooks might not want to admit it, but that’s why it’s long past time for him to shut up.

The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)
