This is absolutely outrageous. SCOTUS reinstated Texas gerrymander 15 weeks before primary because they claimed it was too close to election to block it but now allowing Alabama to gerrymander one week before primary after trial court found map was intentionally discriminatory against Black voters

Despite clear moral justification, the Civil Rights activists did not pick every possible fight on every possible front. This is because choosing your battles isn’t defeatist, it is the opposite. It’s the thing you do when you want to win.

We don't ordinarily publish posts at [checks watch] 8:51 PM on a Friday night, but state constitutional law expert Quinn @yeargain.bsky.social has an outside-the-box idea for reversing the VA Supreme Court that is very much worth taking seriously: Dems can simply lower the retirement age.

Tomorrow morning, we will be dropping a ~12,000 word story on Paul Pressler, the alleged sexual predator who remade the Southern Baptist Convention and helped ordain the marriage between the GOP and white evangelical voters. There is *a lot* in there and I hope you'll read it.

Comic panel of Donald Duck and a wide-eyed young Mickey Mouse. Donald's speech bubble: "Democrats should do a huge middle class tax cut to address affordability." Mickey's speech bubble: "Fool that you are, for you treat taxation as a burden rather than the means by which our burdens are eased. Behold a civilization rich in private wealth yet starved of public provision, where every man owns what his grandfathers could not imagine and yet trembles at the thought of how he will weather an illness or loss of livelihood. Will you fight for an affirmative vision of broad contribution and universal benefit? Or will you perish like a dog?"

when we mourn le guin, we mourn one of our greatest writers & thinkers. but we also mourn one of our all-time greatest haters
All you do is take all the sex out, and use little short words, and little dumb ideas, and don't be too scary, and be sure there's a happy ending. Right? Nothing to it. Write down. Right on.

If you do all that, you might even write Jonathan Livingston Seagull and make twenty billion dollars and have every adult in America reading your book.

But you won't have every kid in America reading your book. They will look at it, and they will see straight through it, with their clear, cold, beady little eyes, and they will put it down, and they will go away. Kids will devour vast amounts of garbage (and it is good for them) but they are not like adults: they have not yet learned to eat plastic.

As a retired airline Captain I flew into LGA and NY airspace hundreds of times. It is some of the world’s busiest airspace. To have only one ATC in the tower at LGA is criminal negligance. Not only is the airspace crowded and chaotic, so are the ground operations. Sean Duffy’s FAA owns this 100%

The amount of antisemitism on this website is growing incredibly fast. Calling Jews “Zionists.” The unrelenting AIPAC obsession. Someone - seemingly a left-winger - just straight-up called me a Jew as a term of derision. There’s something really bad happening here and we need to put a check on it.

This is just the left version of MAGA’s “they’re all corrupt, but at least Trump is honest about it” claim. Corrosive anti-institutional cynicism. Many elected leaders are sincere and thoughtful in their views and work hard to know their communities. But that’s less fun than being angry all the time

i think they hate each other and don't talk but it's also not in OpenAI's interest for the precedent to be set that the government can kill AI companies for being "woke". both companies are still subject to heavy pressure from their researchers who all live in san francisco.

so the only way this partnership would have realistically been possible is if anthropic provided palantir with a railfree model or model with a heavily nerfed safety stack. after it was revealed that claude was used in the maduro raid (via palantir), anthropic researchers (rightly) objected.

i think this is actually the original source of the tension. i don't think the models are fungible for palantir despite what karp said. anthropic has been partnered with palantir in 2024 during like sonnet 3 era. if you ever used that model, you know how overbearing the guardrails were.

natanla.bsky.social @natanla.bsky.social · 28/02/2026
i don't think that's right based on reading dario's statement -- for example, he objected to use for *domestic* mass surveillance. but anthropic is already the model that palantir uses to power all of their systems. so the models are already doing it now.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast. The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me. But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.
On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.”

A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees.

The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.
