Fascinating world of ancient #glass! #Roman dove-shaped vessels were used as perfume bottles. The liquid was sealed inside and the tip of the tail or the beak had to be broken to remove the perfume. This particular example, discovered in a first-century burial at Rovasenda, Italy, is...🧵1/2 🏺

What a brilliant piece. It reads like a fictional journey to a fictional society in part because she is describing a cult. A man more or less LARPing into oblivion while causing harm in the medium and short term.

I *could* look up the criteria for this Big E event that involved wool-based fashions and a companion sheep, but I prefer to imagine my own.
A view of several people standing together on a sawdust covered floor. Each is paired with a sheep. The woman on the left is wearing a beige dress and has a golden yellow shawl. Her sheep is wearing a matching yellow beret.People standing with their sheep, waiting for judgment.A view from the other end of the line. The woman closest is wearing a blue ensemble, and her sheep has a matching scarf.

In case you were curious how similar the Great Egret and Great Blue Heron are in size, these two lined up perfectly for comparison. Apparently it was a desirable fishing spot #birds 🌿
A large gray heron stands in shallow wetlands, looking down towards the water. A large white after stands behind it in almost the same pose they are very similar in size. The heron’s beak is bigger and chunkier.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

A close-up photograph of numerous water droplets suspended on the fine threads of a spiderweb. The background is softly blurred, featuring warm, autumnal colors like orange, yellow, and red, which are reflected in the droplets themselves.
The lighting highlights the spherical shape and clarity of the water drops, creating a jewel-like effect as they catch the light. The intricate pattern of the web is visible where the threads connect the droplets.

Always good to find a weird little niche museum. Clocks! Lots and lots of clocks!
A large room filled with grandfather clocks. There are two antique sofas back to back in the middle of the room. A case of clocks. The one in the back is shaped and colored like a pumpkin and says “nonesuch mince meat pumpkin squash” “like mother used to make”. There are three other, fancier shelf clocks in front of it, one under a glass cloche.A 5x5 display of pocket watches. They are between glass in a wood frame. Some novelty clocks from the late 1800s or early 1900s. A cat clock is in the middle. It is wearing a green ribbon around its neck and its tail is hanging down as the pendulum.
