What do you do about congressional districts or states that are themselves deeply divided? What do you do about “cultural issues” that have very severe material consequences for the people on the wrong end of them?

This is 100% the correct (and obvious) move by Dems and they need to do it Every. Single. Time: counter Republicans strongarming companies/schools by openly and directly saying "we will be in charge in like a year and will absolutely make this cost you." www.semafor.com/article/12/1...

Democrats warn their party may try to unravel any Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery deal
A new letter from Reps. Sam Liccardo, D-Calif., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., also raised concerns about foreign investors’ involvement.

a few candidates have talked about this but any Dem planning to run in 2028 should make it explicit: the next DOJ will, in fact, go after you if you’re funding this awful ballroom, or any other pay to play deals you make with this administration

This sounds reasonable but is 100% wrong. Whether you or agree or disagree with a study is completely immaterial. What matters is whether the study was conducted properly and generates valid results. And it's impolitic to say but it's true: you have to have some level of expertise to judge that.

there is a world in which it would make sense for Dems to cave and help reopen the government, for example, if we just got crushed in VA/NJ and voters were blaming us for the shutdown we are not in that world. we are in the opposite world. trump is taking all the blame and flailing. jesus christ

This is great. Normally, with U.S. press, when a Republican lies, they go, "well, we'll have to leave it there because I want to move on." In this case, however, Vance lies and Stephanopoulos is immediately, "into the trebuchet, my dude."

A huge issue continues to be that the threat of consequences from Dems isn’t credible. These folks may not have a coherent plan for an 100 year Trump dictatorship, but they think they’ll come out ahead either way.

It'd be one thing if rural voters contented themselves with insatiable rent-seeking and a nauseating culture of victimhood, but they also seem incapable of letting everyone else go about their business. Biden giving them more "abundance" merely emboldened their attacks. defector.com/doomsday-for...
The issue there is that all of Pennsylvania gets to decide SEPTA's funding, not just the part of the state that uses it. Many politicians representing suburban and rural interests actively resent its existence. While the Democratic-controlled state house has repeatedly passed funding for SEPTA in the past month, filling the deficit with state sales taxes, none of those bills have been able to make it through the state's Republican-controlled Senate. As Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman declared in a speech last week, "Human nature suggests, why should I do anything to help? I don’t ever get any help for my region."

This is materially untrue. The Southeastern Pennsylvania region in SEPTA's name contributes more in taxes to the Commonwealth than it receives in return. The opposite can be said of rural counties in Pennsylvania, including Indiana County, which Pittman represents. Funding SEPTA would continue to fuel the economic engine of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the one that pays for roads and services throughout the state. Public transit is a service, not a business—should public schools have to turn a profit? A powerful transit system can benefit everyone, unless one is so petty as to view the ability of human beings to move from place to place as a zero-sum game to be won—the optimist in me hopes that human nature does not tend toward such smarmy cruelty, especially in matters of policy. The optimist in me has often been wrong in recent years. Not part of linked article. Catalist graph, "As recently as 2012, Barack Obama earned much more support from rural voters, with 41% in 2008 and 38% in 2012. He was also competitive in the suburbs, earning 53% support in 2008 and 51% in 2012. And Obama won by large margins in urban areas, earning 72% support from urban voters each cycle.

In 2016, rural support for Democrats substantially fell, offset by support increases among urban voters and, by varying degrees, suburban voters. Biden won in 2020 with a slightly less urban coalition, reverting back to 2012 support levels in urban areas (72%), but gaining support up to 54% in the suburbs as well as a slight rebound in rural support to 34%. These support rates were nearly identical in the battleground states."

Blue states need to immediately pass a law directing state law enforcement officers to detain anyone performing an arrest or detention in public while masked or failing to visibly display identifying credentials, for the purpose of protecting public safety. And yes, they can do so.

Popularist: voters want material benefits and popular stances on the most salient issues. We propose an abundance-filled utopia as our main campaign plank. The catch: this can only work if we yell slurs at the transgender 8 year old who scored a goal against my daughter’s intramural soccer team.
