1. I read it in under 24 hours (it's a brief and smoothly written read, also suspenseful as you try to figure out what's going on) and O don't get to do that often enough. 2. If we want to discourse, I'm surprised I've never seen anyone accuse it of being copaganda.

I've got the emotional boundaries necessary to not get unhappy when two people I like make each other unhappy, but really, did it need to escalate like that?

Very so often there's a heated debate between two people I follow and it looks just like this to me.

So the tl;dr; seems to be that the decline in fertility rate is not so much a decline in people choosing not to have children but rather a decline in people having children without it being their choice.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

My wife: Can you read our baby a book?
Me: I can just play an audiobook from my phone.
My wife: But then it won't be in your voice.
Me: I can train a voice model.

I swear to God. STOP YELLING AT MY FUCKING EMPLOYEES. They are children. This job, for most of them is their first. They are going to make mistakes. They aren't in charge of anything. This can all be fixed with a smile and a polite attitude. It's ice cream for crying out loud. Grow up and act your age.

As a college freshman I was introduced to an essay that claimed people, when surveyed, react to the prospect of heavy thinking the same way they react to the prospect of physical pain. (IIRC the details were like "would rather get a minor electric shock than have to solve math problems.")

This, and also: parents often didn't live as long, so waiting them out might have been a plausible alternative to estrangement.

I'm pretty sure some of us were wondering why they even got divorced, it sounded so amicable. But the thing is, if they'd been stuck with each other it would not have been so friendly! (Far from the only case where people are good exes but terrible spouses. No-fault divorce FTW)

I was at a party over the weekend where a guy bragged about how easy and bloodless his and his ex's divorce was. They paid a lawyer about $400, signed some paperwork, and their problems were over. Hell yeah, they SHOULD be bragging.

*so important*: if you’re voting by mail, assume the USPS will delay because it’s its policy. You can: —put it in drop box —go to counter to watch them postmark in front of you —if you’re dropping it in a mailbox, do it VERY EARLY.

I've seen quite a few of the same tells in AI slop stories submitted to me. Not following simple submission guidelines is the first and biggest red flag. Also: submitting stories way above or below the requested word count, and writing a fucking essay in lieu of a simple cover letter.

I mean, I'd love to learn people are actually persuaded by facts after all. It goes against much of what I've been taught about psychology. My own urge to believe otherwise is of course a confounding factor.

The latter point, plus the fact that many of these studies are from the same researcher (not independent studies coming to the same conclusion), may be grounds for skepticism, but I'd be delighted to learn this is happening for real!

Worth picking out that the effect holds even when the conspiracy theorists thinks they're arguing with a human expert, and the study authors seem to find this evidence a point in favor of people being capable of persuasion by facts instead of ego and emotion.

Butterbutt. An older comic.
A four-panel comic titled "yellow-rumped warbler poem". In panel 1, a yellow-rumped warbler stands on a branch in a late autumn scene, and says "Fall is here." In panel 2, the warbler watches a brown leaf fall to the ground, and says "Winter's near." In panel 3, the warbler faces the viewer as brown leaves fall, and says "Need some cheer?" In panel 4, the warbler is showing its luminous yellow rump, and cheerfully says "See my rear."

Sorry to vore fans, but for reasons of personal taste I’ve leaned more toward the gratifications of “oral sex” and also “racist xenophobic politicians being eaten alive.” (Some might call the latter a digression from the sex, and it kind of is, but it also does important character work. And is fun.)

As part of the Frisky Fairytales ‘zine (a free collection of fairytale-themed erotic writing and art to be released later this year), I’ve written a version of "Prince Lindworm" that leans very heavily on the stripping, femdom, and "prince that eats people" themes. tc-mill.com/new-and-tend...

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward
