Happy September and spring southern hemisphere denizens.
Pink blossom tree in a park with emerald green lawn and crystal clear blue sky. Not in picture, the horrid Melbourne spring winds. Also, it will rain tomorrow so, enjoying it while I can.

Glenn A Baker might have looked like a caricature of a music nerd, but he took Australian music seriously when very few others did, and remained a champion of it. We all owe him a debt for that

Arizona teen hailed for helping save woman with dementia wandering in 103F heat
Fire crew in Gilbert to honor Royal Cothrun, 14, for helping elderly woman who became disoriented amid heatwave An Arizona fire department is formally honoring a 14-year-old boy who recently helped save an elderly woman with dementia after she wandered miles off course amid potentially lethal temperatures, saying the teenager demonstrated “heroism … quick thinking and compassion”. Royal Cothrun was riding his bicycle in June in the town of Gilbert when he encountered Theresa Morgan as she struggled to walk through 103F (39.4C) heat with a grocery bag dangling off one arm and a purse on the other, according to authorities as well as reporting by the local news outlet KNXV. There is a group-think in the London media-political complex, that the only response to any political development is to shift further in a Reform direction, a view held from pundits and think-tankers to spads and BBC producers and news editors. But it is a spell, and one day spells can be broken.

"Daily grind" here means: a large salary for one hot-take every 10 days or so with no consequences ever for being proved wrong, a second undisclosed salary from a think-tank, 5-figure speaking fees, leaving the wife for your much younger research assistant. Exhausting stuff.

The rise of a political organisation with no policy framework and an appeal based solely on disgruntlement and prejudice says nothing good about routine politics … but perhaps more importantly the political media’s determination to report politics as reality TV.

With the full caveat that social media is not life, the sheer viciousness of many replies and quotes feels striking. People saying Ramsay and others should be "purged", and utterly dismissing any cooperation with other parties. It's a long way from the Greens of the "progressive alliance".

Something very dispiriting about the lazy assumption that a people in a place that voted a certain way 10 years ago would be incapable of reacting to new information (and of course plenty of the original voters are now in the great polling booth in the sky).
