They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

Symbols matter. White House isn't a palace. Kennedy Center is for the general public to enjoy. We don't have a triumphal arch in DC because that's imperial. We don't put the president's face on money because it's monarchical. It's about tearing down everything that says we're a democratic republic.

Mass suicides in Nazi Germany
Article

During the final weeks of Nazi Germany and World War I! in Europe, many civilians, government officials, and military personnel throughout Germany and German-occupied Europe committed suicide. In addition to Adolf Hitler and many high-ranking Nazi officials like Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, and Philipp Bouhler, others chose suicide rather than accept the defeat of Germany.!"! Motivating or triggering factors included fears of execution for Nazi war
crimes or reprisals and atrocities by the Allies and the Soviets, Nazi propaganda glorifying suicide as preferable to defeat, and despondency after Hitler's suicide. For example, in May 1945, up to 1,000 people killed themselves in a mass suicide in the German town of Demmin, before and after

Oatmeal was stalking prey, a tiny spider, all night long. Though he didn't catch it, he felt satisfied about the evening's hunt.
Gray and white part Siamese cat on the arm of a chair at night. He's looking up at his prey (not in photo) a tiny motionless spider on the ceiling. Also note hole in curtain, caused by cat a month ago. Now he's on the other arm of the chair, looking at unknown. Cat is now lounging in front of tv screen, like the big content hunter. On tv, a lion on the savanna.
