When Blessed was rehearsing Peter Pan in Manchester, my mate had to deliver a big rubber crocodile to the company. He was told to deliver the prop to the room. When he walked in, Blessed roared, ‘here comes the fucking crocodile!’ grabbed it, and wrestled it to the floor. What a legend.

He was at Sci-Fi Weekender a couple of years back and gave a very funny talk. On his way off the stage he fell down the steps and the whole room froze thinking we'd just killed Brian Blessed, until there was a booming "GORDON'S ALIVE!" from the floor and we all cheered 🤣

Brian Blessed’s birthday is an excuse to share one of the greatest paragraphs in any memoir ever.
A paragraph from Brian Blessed’s autobiography:

So the first time I ever came into contact with O'Toole was at one of these student gatherings.
I remember it well because I'd just punched Harold Pinter down a flight of stairs.

Personally, I'd like a Director General who doesn't cream-their-jeans at the prospect of reducing the BBC to an employee-less, AI powered, app that nobody downloads. But I'm weird that way.

It was built by a fella called Mr Scotcher, who ran a beerhouse on Glebe Street (the one that became Harry’s Bar in the 1990s). He wanted more football trade, so he got backing from Pims brewery on Copeland Street (based on the A500 side of the street, so long long gone) to build the place

Ever since I first saw it, this scene has epitomised Amerlcan elegance for me. I wrote a short story about it for Radio 4 (never broadcast) and it's why I drink Gibsons even though nobody who works in a bar these days knows what they are. A perfect scene - RIP Eva Marie Saint.

Very enjoyable Joe, but I’ve got news for you - The Vic wasn’t named after the pub! 😮 T’was the other way round, as the Vic Hotel wasn’t built until 1902. The Victoria bit comes from the Stoke Victoria Athletic Club, founded in 1862 as a spinoff from the cricket club founded in 1847

Snippet of a pop music column in the Miami News on, I believe, August 5, 1975. The column touts two up and coming British bands, the 101ers and Doctor Feelgood
