Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 15/10/2026There are many beautiful monuments in the Japanese Cemetery of Colma, California, but this one with its swooping calligraphy is one of my favorites. Day 15: language #31DaysOfGraves 2221
Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 15/10/2026The floor of the New Haven Crypt is covered in brick. Each of the historic monuments has a margin of dirt around it so the stones can breathe. During the day, filled with visitors, the. crypt felt peaceful and still. Wonder what it’s like in the dark? Day 14: brick #31DaysOfGraves 0210
Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 14/10/2026The tule homes were ordinary once. They were everywhere. I was envisioning what once was, before the invasion: something so comfortable and common, on the unceded Ramytush Ohlone land. 120
Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 14/10/2026One of the most unusual things I’ve ever found in a cemetery is J. Seward Johnson’s Crack the Whip statue in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Michigan. A chain of life-size bronze children hold hands in the middle of a field. It’s incredible to see. Day 13: unusual #31DaysOfGraves 0377
Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Before the Spanish invaded, the Ramaytush Ohlone lived in tule homes in what became San Francisco. This one stands in the cemetery at Mission Dolores, where thousands of enslaved Ohlone people were buried in graves no longer marked. Day 12: ordinary #31DaysOfGraves 1213

Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Humor is in the eye of the beholder…and the angle of the photographer. This monument in Resurrection Cemetery in Michigan is really poignant if you look at it another way. Day 11: humorous #31DaysOfGraves 0180
Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Now used as a public golf course, this was once the San Francisco City Cemetery. When the city voted to remove the graves early in the 20th century, the headstones were moved — but the bodies were not. This structure is all that remains of the Chinese mortuary temple. Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I love the lettering on this little stone. It belongs to Our Darling Eddie in Union Cemetery in Kansas City. I had this lovely day to myself, drifting from stone to stone as they called to me. Day 9: lettering #31DaysOfGraves 0100

Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Rainy day in Montmartre Cemetery with raindrops on immortelles. Not my first rainy day in a cemetery by far, but this one had the advantage of leaving my family alone in the cemetery when everyone else ran for the exits. It was like being alone in Paris. Loren Rhoads @morbidloren.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Day 5: Vehicle is a hard one. I’m going to go with this Ghost Bike. Although it doesn’t mark a gravesite, it did stand in memory of a victim of a fatal accident in my old neighborhood. #31DaysOfGraves 0131
