The "Is AI alive" conversation is 100% this, too. If you can be conned by a chatbot, I fear for your general safety. You are the guy at the stripclub who think the dancers really like you.

I think people overthink the idea of a poll test. A simple "pick the last three presidents from this list of 10" would probably eliminate 10% of the votes.

Again, <only Republicans> ever get to talk like this. If a single municipal level Democrat ever did, it would be a national outrage &spark a wave of “civility” discourse, & op-eds about how Dems must Respect Real Folkz & talk across difference. Democracy is incompatible with this double standard.

These are not fully formed ideas but what I am sensing is a toxic combination of: - So few people reading quality fiction where you have to put yourself in someone else's shoes & actually pay attention, rather than reading passively. This results in lacking basic reading skills.

NEW: Last month, I flew to Kansas to speak with Rev. Adam Hamilton, the megachurch pastor running for Senate — as a Democrat. He talked to me about "progressive evangelicalism," and I talked to his congregants. And here's the thing: he has a real chance of winning. religionnews.com/2026/09/23/h...

How megapastor Adam Hamilton could break the GOP's hold on Kansas
LEAWOOD, Kansas (RNS) — While Democrats have long been considered a longshot for statewide races in Kansas, the Rev. Adam Hamilton's candidacy has proven unexpectedly competitive.

The 4% Independent result is good, and if you want Hamilton to win, you want that number even higher. This isn't Ralph Nader. The majority of those voters are Republicans who consider themselves too principled to vote for a terrible Republican, but won't vote for a Democrat.

August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
There is not a liberal groundswell in Kansas. Some very particular circumstances have led to this race being close. Kansas doesn't elect Democrat governors because there's a growing trend of liberalism. We elect Democrat governors to pretend we are reasonable and to punish embarrassing Republicans.

If David Graham wasn't in the race, that 4% would be voting Republican.

August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
Yep. Independents in KS are Republicans who won't vote for a Dem but, for whatever reason, don't want to vote for a particular Republican either. We need more of them frankly.

August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
So Marshall has to rely on hardcore Maga voters, who don't vote if Trump isn't on the ballot. This isn't about KS turning blue. The next governor is probably going to be a Maga chucklefuck who is going to run the state into the ground. But maybe, maybe we can help at the national level for once.
000
August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
It's about 1/3 Maga, 1/3 "normal" R's, and 1/3 Dem. If the other Senator, Jerry Moran was running, I don't think this would be a competitive race, because he's mostly quiet and stays out of the spotlight so the normal R likes him. It's harder for "principled" R's to vote for Marshall.

August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
I think this is the best shot of a D senator in my lifetime, bc Marshall is such a bad candidate. The normal R voter (probably about 1/3 the population) are not enthusiastic. They don't like him going on Fox news every day, they don't like his attack ads, they don't like his personality.

August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
That's not wrong, but KS has elected alternating Republican and Democrat governors since the 60s. The cycle is a R screws everything up, then a D cleans it up but the swing votes get annoyed by them, then an R screws everything up again. Our next governor is almost certainly going to be a Maga chud.
010
August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
Eh. KS has alternated governorship since the 60's. R's overreach and annoys people, a Dem gets elected to clean it up, then another Republican gets elected and overreaches again. Almost certainly going to happen this year too.
010
August @month8.theotheramb.com · 18/09/2026
Don't read too much into that. Kansas will allow ourselves 1 Democrats at a time, no more. Maga Republican Ty Masterson is probably going to be governor and fuck the state up badly.
