Happy to help! I’m a long time fan! I only edit Wikipedia once every few years, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually added a photo before so we’ll see how that goes, but I’m glad to put my limited skills to good use.

Okay so far I’ve updated your pub list and added AABB to the intro. Feel free to message me w/ a link to a better CC-licensed or PD photo, & point me towards anything else you think is missing. I can work on it some more over the weekend. At minimum I’ll update your awards & add an AABB section.

It gets worse. One of my kids hates pasta. The other one hates cheese. They can’t even agree on ice cream, one likes soft serve and the other likes the bougie small batch stuff.

I recently asked my kids what kinds of things they want me took cook for dinner, when I have the time and energy to cook. Kid 1: No more chicken! I don’t like it anymore. It’s gross. I can’t even look at it. I hate it. Chicken is the worst. Kid 2: I like all the things you make with chicken.

My theory is that with straight ticket voting, as long as a Dem voter is on board with Abdul, there’s nothing else that would induce them to split their ticket. They’re just going to fill one bubble for all the dems and be done with it.

Today in MI I saw an ad that’s just a bunch of cops in their bulletproof cop outfits saying, “in the past we have endorsed democrats and republicans, but El Sayeed (sic) wants to defund the police and let criminals go free and that’s just TOO EXTREME.”

Fears of small AI drones autonomously killing civilians are a great example of this distortion. People are using small drones to kill civilians. Right now! I'm not saying no one should ever think about the possibility—I've written about it—but way more should focus on what's already happening.

No, that was a different sidewalk in my hood, the one with an early elementary school bus stop. Over 60 neighbors signed the petition for that one, smashing the city record, but anti-safety activists drove in from other parts of town to hold a funeral for the handful of trees they had to cut down.

Only a couple days until we convert a parking space on S. State at Liberty into a space for people, not cars! We'll have comfy furniture, activities, and friendly faces. Urbanism Club and Wolverines on Wheels will also have parklets. Come through! Then, find us at Green Fair on Main St. downtown!
Friday, Sept 18.
Parking Day. State & Liberty St. 2-6pm.
Green Fair. Main St & Washington. 5-8pm.

Anti-safety advocates tried to stop the city from putting in this sidewalk on a route to 3 schools. They fought it at every step, driving in from across town to pack public meetings and the neighborhood walk-through. It’s exhausting having to battle for every foot of sidewalk. But we won! #a2council

It’s part of the rhythm of back to school at this point, the first couple weeks my kids come home famished and I ask if they ate lunch and they wail “I didn’t have tiiiiime!” Catching up with friends is much more interesting than a turkey sandwich & with only 21 minutes for lunch they can’t do both.

Being an active participant is not the same as teaching your kid to read, I think that’s the OP’s whole point. My youngest couldn’t read to me in first grade because my youngest couldn’t read in first grade, or most of second. There are limits to what active participation can fix.

If your kid is getting Orton Gillingham at school you are not having a typical American public school experience. In my wealthy, highly educated district, the only way a kid gets access to that kind of evidence-based reading support is with a private tutor.

I live and work in a state where Jim Crow laws mean that public employees (like UNC system faculty) have no collective bargaining rights. The UN has declared that ban a violation of public employees’ human rights. My workplace is closed today for Labor Day but that feels kind of performative.

Collective Bargaining - UE Local 150
Collective bargaining is the basic process of negotiation between workers who have organized a union and their employer on issues such as wages, work rules and policies, child care, staffing ratios, health and safety on the job, benefits, insurance premiums, work schedules, vacation, etc.

Here you go! I don’t know why he lied about the cook time in the version he shares with people, but it’s more like 6 hours to a whole day.
Brisket
I prepare this in an 8.5 quart dutch oven with a thick bottom the day before I’m going to serve it.
Ingredients:
Olive oil as needed for browning
2 large onions, sliced
4-10 cloves garlic, minced
1 (3-5lb) first cut brisket (figure about 1/2 lb / person) or 3-4 lbs chuck roast
in 1-2 inch cubes
2 quarts chicken stock (it tastes better this way) or water
2Tb apple cider vinegar
3Tb brown sugar
3 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
1 bunch fresh dill, finely chopped (or 2 tablespoons dried dill)
6-8 carrots, sliced into 2 inch pieces
4 large or 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch or so pieces
1. Melt fat (or pour olive oil) into the Dutch oven. Cook onion slices, stirring periodically, until tender(they’ll look
slightly transparent) and when the onions are almost done add the garlic and stir.
2. Remove the onions and garlic and put into a 3 qt saucepan with the stock (or water). Add the vinegar, brown sugar,
salt, pepper and dill. Bring to a boil, stirring a couple of times.
3. While the liquids are getting to a boil, turn the flame high under the Dutch oven. When it is hot brown the brisket on all sides. (This means you are searing each side until it is brown and holding the brisket on edge so the edges
brown.) When done browning, turn the brisket fatty side down.
4. Carefully pour the liquid over the brisket. Because the pan is hot the intial liquid may splatter.
5. Add the cut up carrots and potatoes. Cover and simmer for 2 1/2 hrs. Turn off the heat under the pot and let it cool.
6. A couple of hours before you are going to serve it. take the brisket out of the pan. Slice it across the grain –
usually you need to cut the brisket in half along the grain so you have reasonably sized pieces when you make the
across the grain cut.
7. Return the pieces to the liquid, make sure they are pretty well immersed, cover the pan, and put on a low flame. It will be simmering and hot by the time you are going to serve it and you can’t overcook this.

Oh I have the recipe! But my dad is still around so I let him cook it. The predominant unique flavor is dill. Loads of dill. But it also includes brown sugar (which has molasses!) lots of onions, potatoes, and carrots.

Oh! This explains why the brisket I grew up with is so different from everyone else’s. My dad reverse engineered my super-taster mother’s Russian grandmother’s recipe based on her taste memories. The lore goes that the day he got it right she knew the moment she walked in the door, from aroma alone.
