given a quaternion rotation q,
q² doubles the rotation
√q halves the rotation
qˣ scales the rotation by x
as a rule of thumb - whatever operator you would use with vectors, like, say, addition, elevate it to the higher order operator (multiplication) to do the same thing on a quaternion
