Louise Bourgeois on the difference between French and American aesthetics
Summarized: LB's mother sewed tapestries. Tapestries to be exported to America had to have figure's genitals cut out and replaced with flowers. LB's mother saved up the excised genitals and made a quilt to give to her daughter. And that's the difference.

after they are finished with trans people, and disabled people, and autistic people, they'll come for adhd people, and go right on through the list. fascism is a fire that cannot be quenched. once everyone is a cishet white male, they'll start burning people for being short, or having webbed toes.

I don't think James C. Scott could have predicted a ruler this stupid, but the dynamics in "Seeing Like A State" still apply pretty well. He cares about DC because he sees it from his car. He cares about Greenland and Lake Ontario because they're big on maps.

People are so sick of our 2-party system that half of Americans in this new poll support switching to a multi-party proportional representation system. Let's do it! As soon as we get rid of Trump, let's pass the Fair Representation Act for proportional ranked choice voting via multiwinner districts.

A new poll shows support for moving the U.S. toward proportional representation, a system that elects multiple representatives in a single district in rough proportion to a party's vote share.

"... a representative for the Department of Homeland Security said the Aurora facility had no confirmed, active cases of TB." The question then is: did they actually properly evaluate them? The fact that they're using the skin test on an immigrant population suggests they are not.

I'm not saying be willfully ignorant. I'm not saying pretend horrible things aren't happening. I'm saying don't destroy your mental health going in-depth and cycling through horror after horror on your phone. I'm saying there is no virtue in making yourself experience other people's traumas because mere awareness is not activism. you inflicting suffering on yourself is not activism.
doomscrolling is literally sapping your energy and focus away from doing anything useful to help other people. you can burn yourself out without ever lifting a finger by exposing yourself to all the bad news in the world and who does that help? no one.
