How is this not an immediate call from the mayor to CPD brass? Or from alders at the press conference (linked in the thread below) to the mayor saying, call CPD leadership now?

I'm ok with switchbacks (we're rolling with an urban arrow and I can manage the super tight east side of Milwaukee switchback exit off the 606), just hoping they're wide enough so that it doesn't have to fully clog the traffic in both directions to navigate it.

Induce the demand!! Also, anyone know if they updated designs to make sure the turns will be able to handle cargo bikes? do we need to up the advocacy on that or did they take the feedback after the first public meeting on it?

The "bike bus" idea is simple: Once a week, a group of kids and parents bike to school together. It's an idea being embraced in neighborhoods around Chicago as a way to socialize and push back against car-centric culture, parents say.

Things I'm also noticing: - the presence of pedestrians made the street safer for everyone, forcing the truck to at least slow down a little - parking protection ends well before intersection but no other hardened infra through the intersection (bump out etc.) means truck is able to cut it sharp

The alders' letter references a 2025 report produced by the Equity in Enforcement working group. There's one particular table from the report worth revisiting, reproduced here. The chart is my own approximation, but it shows that a small # of drivers are responsible for a large % of the violations.
Ticket data from the lifetime of the program (through 05/27/2025), provided by the DoF

ASE ticket count	# of vehicles
1-2	3,928,788
3-5	1,167,737
6-10	454,244
11-15	121,330
16-30	78,320
31-50	13,991
51-100	3,690
101-200	370
201-300	31
301-400	5
401-500	3
500+	25*
*This number represents companies or fleets, not individual motorists.Chart showing the percent of ticketed vehicles vs. percent of tickets for Chicago ASE programs through 5/27/2025

The data is imprecise, due to the way it was shared with the public.

Striking to see the divergent unique trip ridership numbers, in wards that have added a lot and have a high density of stations ridership seems flat or up. Those with a stagnant/small number of stations seem to be down (stands to reason).

it's really depressing, honestly, and there is the much harder to measure opportunity cost of builders who might consider building a *lot* more housing on larger pieces of transit-served land (big vacant lots at Kimball and North for example) - but now think "why would they bother?"

A statistic that haunts me because it is 100% true and shocking and useless in advocacy precisely because it is true and shocking: Policy that enables a 1-car lifestyle rather than 2 is equivalent to giving a family a $25,000 annual pay raise.

if you ever wonder how Americans became the richest major country on the planet but most of us still feel so poor, looking at what we spend on cars — not just directly but in tax money for infrastructure and space in the built environment — is the answer.

11 (!) Alders, have built less than 1 mile of new infra during this term. Well, is that because their wards are already full of safe streets infrastructure? No it is not, 8 of the 11 have less than 1% safe streets infra.
