The biggest victory here isnt even the bus lane itself. Its a victory over The Process: - make a committee - meet with The Groups - make a report - start a non-binding referendum - make a pilot - make a report - make a plan - deploy a few years later People are SICK of this.

"Approximately 1,490 CTA buses on 21 different routes use at least part of the new dedicated bus lane." I agree the lane should be extended, but a bus only lane in such a high visibility and traffic area will do wonders for setting precedent

Traffic safety made the front page and top story!! We need to do so much to prevent the next tragedy, but I'm glad that 21 alders (so far) are supporting this letter with just a few of those next steps

"Alongside more than a dozen of our aldermanic colleagues, we endorsed a set of policy recommendations geared toward ensuring tragedies such as what befell O’Neil become a thing of the past." - www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/15/o...

Aldermen: Riley O’Neil died a preventable death. We can’t cut funding for safe streets.
The number of fatal crashes on Chicago roadways remain stubbornly high because of a lack of committed action.

the lack of car traffic on DLSD yesterday and during the holiday today is reminding me of the spring-2020 time when the streets were so much quieter than normal. I know the "cities aren't loud cars are loud" thing is a meme but it really is striking

"Denver renters are seeing a brighter picture now as developers and managers cut rents and offer free-month subsidies to move a glut of units built during 2024 and 2025." Renters are *moving out of subsidized housing into market rate because the rent is cheaper because they built so much.*

Single Stair continues to be a data-supported city law/code change held back by some bad-faith fear but potentially some good-faith implementation concerns on the backend. The implementation concerns can be fixed afterwards, so this should be an easy housing issue for mayoral candidates to support

A truly awful parallel. On 6/5 a driver "doored" Chicago planner Riley O'Neil, 35, on his bike and he went under the wheel of a semi. chi.streetsblog.org/2026/06/09/t... On 7/9 a trucker struck and killed Boston planner Louisa Gag, 36, while she was cycling. www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/...

🚨 Urge your alder to hit the brakes on The 78 TIF! 🚨 Instead of investing in public transit like in the original 2019 plans, the City is now trying to ram through $216 million in public subsidies for a parking garage, with little transparency on the impact nor what public benefit this will provide.

Hell yeah, that's a city life to fight for. Absolutely loving Death and Life of Great American Cities
"Every fine summer night, television sets can be seen outdoors, used publicly, on the busy old sidewalks of East Harlem. Each machine, its extension cord run along the sidewalk from some store's electric outlet, is the informal headquarters spot of a dozen or so men who divide their attention among the machine, the children they are in charge of, their cans of beer, each others' comments and the greetings of passers-by. Strangers stop, as they wish, to join the viewing."
