my main issue with ai is that i would personally see a larger ROI if those trillions of dollars were spent on healthcare or public transit or schools or road repairs or SNAP or free childcare or free school lunches or EV charging stations or public libraries or housing or clean energy or broadband

Fine. This is why getting vaccinated helps protect others as I (a doc who is definitely not an immunologist) would explain to my dumb (complimentary) hockey buddies over a few beers. (Note: I have not had beer. I’ve had whiskey. Tonight, a Japanese Toki Suntory whisky.)

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.

According to the most rigorous studies, 10.8% of college men perpetrate at least one rape before graduation. This statistic always comes to mind when I see men in power reacting with disgust to the idea that one of their peers could face even a shred of accountability.

Anyone who says these positions - which merely recognize the basic humanity of other people - are extreme positions is saying that there’s some people they’d like to kill, preferably at a distance, by paperwork and someone not making a living wage.

Universal human rights - including for trans people, women, Palestinians, Jews, disabled people, immigrants, Black and brown people - is not an extreme position. Eliminating death from poverty and a broken healthcare system is not an extreme position.

Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/

Trevor Project released its annual LGBTQ youth mental health report. The results are shocking. 40% of trans youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Trans youth who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Key findings from The 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People include:

36% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including 40% of transgender and nonbinary young people.
1 in 10 LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide in the past year.
44% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.
90% of LGBTQ+ young people said recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies and debates caused them stress or anxiety.
LGBTQ+ young people of color attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and nearly a third (32%) also experienced racial or ethnic discrimination, in addition to anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination.
Transgender and nonbinary young people who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Over half (59%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates of attempting suicide in the past year than their peers.
LGBTQ+ young people who reported living in very accepting communities attempted suicide at less than a third of the rate of those who reported living in very unaccepting communities.

“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.” Originally made as a screen print in 1990, we now offer this thought-provoking poster digitally printed on heavy cover stock.
A vertical screen print style poster in red, yellow and black, featuring the quote by Dom Helder Camara: "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist." The edges of the poster show a packed village with small houses, and a road leading to skyscrapers in the far background. A red sun in the upper right shines its long yellow rays across the image.

I was not surprised to learn that I Georgetown, like most American colleges and universities, has succumbed to the pressure to appear part of the “AI” in-crowd (and to the temptation of the resources being made available to those in that crowd). But even though everything I have done in my professional life has been in some way based on the expectation that institutions will tend towards corruption, corrosion and capture, when I think about what this particular instance of that phenomenon signifies for you, the students of Georgetown, I feel very sad and angry. And I decided that the best thing to do with that sadness and anger would be to write to you all directly about why this decision by your university, which may seem on the surface to be an example of garden variety corporate thoughtlessness, should disturb you deeply, and provoke you to fight back.
