'they might mine the fucking Strait of Hormuz' was an underestimated but hardly out of left field reason why 'assasinating the ayatollah should stay in hegseth's wet dreams' and, well...

Headline makes it sound like the DCCC spent all their money on hookers and blow and now rent is due but the real reason is Trump and the Republicans are so toxic the DCCC thinks it can compete in districts Trump won by 13-20 points.
Specifically, Merz dedicates significant portions of the memo to four districts where the committee is desperate for more money in order to compete — all of which President Donald Trump won by double-digit margins in 2024:

— Florida’s 27th District (Trump +14.6)
— Nevada’s 2nd District (Trump +13.9)
— South Carolina’s 1st District (Trump +13)
— New York’s 21st District (Trump +20.7)

just a heads up, the alt-right is descending into florid insanity over increasingly absurd conspiracy theories about James Talarico having the flu I think it was @jamellebouie.net who said Texas is a critical part of the conservative mythos and losing the state will break the party in absurd ways
gotta say, seeing the alt-right descend into florid insanity over increasingly absurd conspiracy theories about James Talarico catching the flu is one of the more bizarre discourse cycles I’ve seen in a while

tangentially this is also, I think, a reason to worry less about rural Republican undercounting in polls of Kansas than in polls of Iowa: not only is Kansas more urban than Iowa, Kansas is also about twice as Latino as Iowa, especially in rural southwest Kansas

The right wing crash out over asian students celebrating at a UT football game reveals that all along the true goal of reactionary colorblindness was never “meritocracy” but resegregation. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Color-blind meritocracy was, for many years, a successful rhetorical strategy for undermining antidiscrimination law and excluding Black people from selective schools and prominent positions. That’s why so many former segregationists seemed to suddenly embrace the concept in the 1970s. For them, resegregation—not color-blindness—was always the goal. As long as the success of some immigrants could be used to paint Black students as undeserving, color-blind meritocracy was good. But now many on the right see a new problem: too many Asian Americans in elite spaces. Their success, therefore, must be portrayed as a sinister theft of real (white) Americans’ birthright.

The declining “social trust” that the administration warned against is, of course, not the fault of these students. The problem is bigots like Bo French who cannot accept into their community people who do not share their race and religion, and those who monetize or otherwise profit from that bigotry by spreading it through social media. Like the proverbial child who kills their parents and asks for mercy as an orphan, they are responsible for the problem they are decrying.

I'm losing my mind, the Kansas City Star literally did a review of other litigious Kansas doctors and found that none of them charged Marshall's insane 18% interest

Marshall charged 18% on medical bills — more than other Kansas doctors who sued
In reviewing thousands of court documents, the Star found no other medical providers that charged annual interest at 18% or any other specified rate above 12%.
