I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Gonna expand on this a bit, 'cause it seems Tapas is going down sooner than anticipated. If you plan to migrate to Wordpress, I personally advocate for buying a hosting+domain and install WP yourself rather than getting a site on wordpress(dot)com. wordpress.org

I am begging people to think about things before they propose them. If you really care about student literacy, how about we start with reinstating the requirement for staffed libraries in every school? We have students struggling with core skills. And y'all want to throw the slop products at them.

Your periodic reminder that reviews help authors in all kinds of ways. If you love a book, please consider leaving a review in whatever online space you're in. Thanks for your support!

A text-based graphic encouraging readers to leave reviews for books they love. Text reads:

Reviews help authors

Visibility: People buy books based on word of mouth - help them find your favorites

Connection: When you share what you like about a book, it helps someone else who likes the same things decide to give the book a try. A review helps a reader know what they're getting and why a book might appeal to them.

Enthusiasm: Being excited about something is infectious. When you can't stop talking about a book, people will be curious about why you love it.

Get started!: Don't know where to stary? Try describing your favorite part of the book or a character you liked, then say why you liked it best. Share what kind of reader might also like the book.

FYI, from Toocheke. They added a Tapas migration feature.

A screenshot of an email that says

Import Your Tapas.io Comics Into WordPress
You may have seen the news about Tapas shutting down. If you or anyone you know publish there, you’re probably wondering what happens to all of your comics and years of work.

We’ve just added a new import feature to Toocheke Companion (available in version 2.23+) that can move an entire Tapas series into WordPress for you — including episodes, images, thumbnails, and original publish dates.

It keeps everything in order, so you don’t have to manually copy and paste hundreds of pages.

NOT A DUNK, SERIOUS ANSWER: $40 for a domain with certificate annually, $20 or $30 a month hosting, varies. Yes web design sucks hard, but it's achievable & learnable by humans. Templates exist. It's not zero dollars, but it's very doable, it just cuts into your art time.

saw this on Instagram and it so perfectly encapsulated my rage

seravph
being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

seravph
what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

My best advice to new comics ppl getting published for the 1st time is get an agent or lawyer to look at the contact and fight for better royalties & ownership of your work. THE 2ND is to not assume the publisher is doing things for you like submitting things to awards, copyrighting, marketing, etc.
