Walking the 700km Beara Breifne Way: ‘I wanted to test myself, test my body’
By walking through Ireland, I carved a line of connection in time, not only to history, to the Gaelic Irish, but also, back to myself

Amidst shameful media neglect of genocide in #Gaza, there has been a consistent exception: the UK’s Channel 4 News. Today’s report on the daily killings by Israelis of the starving queuing for food aid. Wait for the UN assessment at the end. This is a difficult but essential watch. Pls share.

Did you know that before the 19th amendment one of the reasons given for why women shouldn’t be allowed to vote was: “the mental exertion of voting would cause infertility in women.” This was clearly an idea coming from people who didn’t understand the mental exertion of organizing a household.

Home for Christmas 🎅
Panel 1: Titled "Christmas in theory" shows a young woman, wrapped up in cosy winter coat, scarf and hat, holding a takeaway hot drink as she passed though an idyllic winter scene with snow, a fir tree, children carolling, Santa and his bag of gifts, a snowman, a sign that reads "free mulled wine" and another that reads "Free holiday boyfriend".

Panel 2: Titled "Christmas in reality", showing the same woman carrying a plate of dirty dished while wearing a Christmas jumper and crumpled paper Christmas cracker crown, looking wearily at a man in an enormous scarf who is saying "Yuh, I'm seeewww glad I moved away (three weeks ago). I don't know HOW you put up with living here, it's so...local. Honestly I'd die."

Rom-coms focus too much on budding writers, journalists, and hard-nosed professionals who fall for an aloof, obnoxious man with a secret heart of gold, and not enough on the love lives of Irish women trying to seduce a local Junior B player in the cold outside Supermacs at 3am

A cover of Herr Dumpidump by Roger Hargreaves that says "Herr Dumpidump by Roger Hargreaves" and with an illustration of Herr Dumpidump looking especially dumpidumpish (forgive me but I can't stop repeating the word dumpidump... DUMPIDUMP!)
