Not a real cat. Plays cello sometimes. In very suburban London. Has adult kids, which seems to confuse people in unexpected ways. Absolutely cannot draw and fascinated that some people can! Big fan of muting accounts that don't get jokes.

With apologies if you didn't want a real answer, the extra bit of packaging film is there to help make sure the machines that package them don't crush all the chips while sealing the bag Some products redistribute themselves into the resulting space better than others

The system for that here is if you "look over 25" (which I very easily do) the staff take one look at my face and then we both laugh and I get the thing 😅

No, you're right - we have to scan the whole shop and age verify* and confirm if we want bags before it'll let us pay *Depending on the items purchased

Oh wow, that's way more restrictive than mine - I'm in the UK and here not doing the age verification just stops "adult content" and private messaging

...my new job pays a third more for shorter days, more holiday, better sick leave and a pension offer so generous it doesn't even bear comparison, but I guess thanks for the training and experience that got me a better job somewhere else? 😅🫠

I massively offended a previous employer 3-4 years ago by correctly pointing out that "sharing" by offering us half inflation pay rises annually really meant their longest serving, most loyal employees were taking annual pay cuts 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Funnily enough the finance director was not upset & just agreed)

We go to a shop we call an optician's (regardless of who actually works there) and the shop would have had a special corner with the nhs frames for children in it, once you factor in HP being about my age, so needing glasses in the 1980s

In its native form, that unruffled English upper class thing comes with a side of "if you actually annoy me, my staff will fuck you up and good luck finding a judge willing to try a gentleman"

you cannot control other people. you cannot get them to behave how they "should." you definitely can't get them to agree that you're right, and expecting to do so is a fool's errand. you *can* build trust and authority through your work over time, but even then, people will still wild out!

We need a version of "build the wall" but for trapping American air in America so the rest of us don't have to suffer from having the brattiest global sibling breathing on us in the back of our parents' car 😵‍💫🙋🏻‍♀️

Online shopping removed the ability to touch and interact with the product before purchase, removing people's ability to judge whether it's a usable quality before ordering - yes people who don't have money to waste don't want to spend a lot, but that's not the same as preferring items that break 🙋🏻‍♀️

The anthropomorphization of "AI" is literally PR speak handed down by "AI" companies that want you to think it's magic and also to think that they're not responsible for problems.

The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.

But investment-wise all businesses of any size are paying into a "Training Levy" that funds apprenticeships, and the only way to recoup those costs, for large organisations, is to hire apprentices (or similar train-and-work programmes) ...or enroll existing staff in them and bypass 18-21 year olds

Hard to get, hard to manage (for the employer and education partner), hard on the kids around results time because there's no process comparable to UCAS adjustment and clearing, and teachers lack familiarity, the documentation requirement from hell in one of the clunkiest systems I've ever seen...

The year it came in, one of my son's friends got awkwardly caught between upcoming legislative amends and historic school practices that hadn't quite been updated to fit yet - and had about 2-3 weeks to find and enroll in a different course at a different school as a result 😬

None of that makes any politician able to guarantee work placements, which is a silly promise. But A levels are definitely not for everyone (me included), and the alternative attempts at providing "vocational skills" outside of a workplace environment are patchy at best so far 😬

Meanwhile for 16-18 - it only became mandatory for them to stay in school or get a job around 10-12 years ago, and we are ...still working out how that works in practice. Before that we could leave school at 16 voluntarily and ongoing education wasn't government-mandated or tracked.

For the kids who are able to get one (they are HIGHLY competitive) a formal modern apprenticeship in the UK guarantees an income as well as practical experience and university-linked tuition for three years - so it can be a great option for an 18 year old who's wary of going into debt.

If things get bad enough, the glass cliff effect will kick in and the next president really will be a woman... For one term, and then she'll get blamed for the Trumpian mess she had to clear up, and the next male president will get credited for everything she managed to clear up in 4 years 🤷🏻‍♀️
