Su apellido es "Fernández". A su bisabuelo le parecía plebeyo ser "Fernández" y, como era casi el amo del pueblo mierense de Figaredo, en 1915 cambió el apellido por el del pueblo. A día de hoy, en el valle de Turón aún no lo han declarado persona non grata ni le han andado con la cara o las gafas.
