Parents did not ask for this. Parents are not even represented by this astroturf group. This is a power play by corrupt, heavily-funded sources that have the means and intent to manufacture issues that will take the focus of more immediate education challenges. It's morally bankrupt and disgusting.

I knew this would be bad, but it's awful. Malpractice even. I'll limit my criticism to 9 posts. The Herald have added together the gross debt of NZ public & private sectors and called this debt 'we collectively owe the world'. Pure unadulterated nonsense. Literally untrue. [🧵1/n]

NZ proudly in 4th place in the OECD league table of Govt fiscal restraint (avg deficit of -0.1% of GDP over 30 years). How have we managed that while we have pumped billions out to the rest of the world (yellow)? Simple answer is 'mortgages', crazy amounts of mortgages (blue). I'll explain. [🧵 1/n]

I'm surprised how quiet local government elected representatives are that both the local water done well and the head start amalgamation decisions aren't actually in their hands. Councils got told to make a proposal, and the government decides if they did it right.

NZ has - almost uniquely amongst our peers - tanked its economy and pushed 10,000s onto the dole (and offshore). We were told that this strategy would 'get interest rates down, tame inflation, and drive growth 🎉'. Yet, here we are, slumped and vying to be inflation champs. What went wrong? [🧵1/n]

"Fonterra, along with Fed Farmers, Dairy NZ, Beef & Lamb and others, have set the gold standard for predatory delay. They’ve been at it for more than 20 years. Agricultural emissions have risen 9% since 1990, almost entirely because of methane from expanded dairy herds and increased fertiliser use."

A year ago, ministers met to consider tightening NZ’s pay equity law. Their decisions went further than officials had advised, hardening the policy to the point some groups were cut out from ever making a claim. Why? And on what evidence? They won’t show us. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Ludicrous claims Jacinda Ardern led Labour to victory in 2017. The Bill English-led National party won 44.4% of the vote. Arden's Labour party won 36.9%. What Ardern won was the post-election auction NZF's Winston Peters conducted - a decision he has since publicy regretted,

Seven NZ econ/finance myths that need busting #NZpol... Myth 1: The NZ Govt is in a worrisome level of debt 😱 Govt is not even in 'net debt'. Govt has *debts* but they are more than outweighed by *financial assets* (shares, equity, outstanding loans etc) [🧵1/n]
Graph shows central govt net financial worth including shares equity, govt bonds etc. Govt net financial worth has been around $70bn (2023 prices) for the last 20 years with just a brief dip down to $20bn in 2013.
