I also looked at the gender distribution of these K awardees. Overall, 53% of the awardees were female. Interestingly 66% of the awardees associated with the K awards with clinical trials. Overall, there were small trends, but no statistically significant differences in outcomes by gender 12/13

As a Gilliam Fellow, it’s great to see @hhmi-science.bsky.social continue pushing toward evaluating science on its scientific merit rather than the prestige of the journal it’s in. The future of science should be open, accessible, and focused on the quality of the work, not the name on the cover.

Women As One @womenasone.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
Premenopausal women with ACS are often labeled “low risk.” The reality: rising MI rates, more delays and misdiagnoses, and worse outcomes vs men. ACS in younger women is different and needs tailored care, earlier recognition, and equity in treatment. www.ahajournals.org/... #CardioSky
Screening
• Use validated instruments to screen for depression and anxiety (eg, BDI-II, PHQ-9, GDS, HADS)
• Optimal timing of screening is uncertain but could be conducted at intervals post-ACS
• Consider referral to mental health care professional

Diagnosis
• Confirm diagnosis of depression or anxiety, or both, prior to initiating treatment

Treatment
• Use shared decision-making to inform treatment decision
• CBT and antidepressant mediations (eg, SSRI) are options and may be used together for optimal effect

Re-Assessment
• Reassess depression or anxiety, or both,
symptoms and necessity of continued treatment or modification to treatment plan
