Except he didn't fund it, I did, paying a much higher tax rate than the white supremacist. Those thrusters are SpaceX tech for which we—not him—have paid ~$31 billion. I paid for those cold gas thrusters and the software running them, and what I get in exchange is a short video and white supremacy.

I hereby propose that Vance is short for Grievance. JD Grievance, vp of grifting and grudges.
Grievance is a key word. While high-profile right-wing men on the Internet, including Tate, Musk, Trump, and JD Vance, and right-wing pundits like Tucker Carlson claim to have all the good things in life—gobs of money, lots of power and influence, luxury goods—they radiate misery, resentment, grievance, sourness, whininess. At least since Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, the culture of the right has been driven by an emotional poverty, a stinginess and lack of empathy dressed up as a rational insistence that the rich and the state cannot afford to meet the needs of the poor, whose poverty is all their own fault anyway. Resentment is the recruitment bait; the manufacture of grievance is central to the marketing of all the rest of the package; the much-discussed crisis in masculinity is a for-profit operation, even if many of its operators sincerely believe in and embody its miseries.

The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

A localized version of Guernica with a loon at the center and a person holding an ICE OUT sign

“My piece was inspired by Picasso's Guernica, a work that was his response to the Nazi's bombing of the Basque town. I thought there was a fitting parallel between these incidents about the high price paid by ordinary people when aggressive regimes try out new tactics of war, as well as a fitting juxtaposition of the darkness of living such an experience and the light we shone through it in our own resistance and care for one another. The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’”
