If you just substitute the words 'working age' for 'fighting age', suddenly the arrival of youngish men and women doesn't sound threatening. Rather, it sounds like exactly what we need for an ageing population.

This is a dreadful argument from Burnham. Empirically false - almost 6m people were granted settled status; about 4m are currently resident. More importantly panders to racism/xenophobia, and directly contradicts argument made in his speech about migrant contributions.

Mahmood's comment makes sense if either 1) there is a fixed pie of labour and stuff and people who come here mean less pie for others [false] or 2) British workers and the young just don't want people coming here - ie racism. This might be true of some but it's not universally true.

I disagree. Estimating age based on user behaviour is not less invasive, it’s ’differently’ invasive. It involves gathering far more data than just state issued ID, and that other data can be used for many more invasive inferences than just age. Things like sexuality, emotional state, health etc…
