So, one of my best argument against the electoral college is that it actually provides perverse incentives to presidents to ignore states they’re not going to win. Of course, Trump takes “perverse” to unhinged extremes.

Article 1 is Congress. The presidency comes second, in Article 2, and explicitly requires the president to faithfully execute the law as passed by Congress. But that structure implies that the president can break laws without consequence. Or, well, at least this one can. -Sam Alito, paraphrased

We all should be better about this. What ideology? When do teachers and administration officials have time to forcibly change the gender of the students? The greatest failure of US education is teaching in such a way that we don't have logic or critical thinking skills as adults.

Men commit 97% of sexual assaults and men are statistically more likely to be raped by another man, than falsely accused of rape by a woman. Boys and men who've been sexually assaulted understand that rape is about power, domination and humiliation. They know it's rooted in misogyny. They get it.

And this is my annual reminder that Hayes was born in a gas station. Not really. The actual building was removed in 1926 and the site became a Standard Oil gas station. It's still a gas station though a BP franchised gas station. A marker has been in front of the gas station since 1926.
A photo of the historical marker honoring the location of the birthplace of the 19th US President Rutherford B. Hayes. Behind the marker is a BP gas station.A close up of the marker in front of the BP gas station where the 19th President of the United States was born. The marker text contains two paragraphs recounting the effort to try to save the original building on the site by the Delaware City Chapter, NSDAR, and the eventual demolition by Standard Oil in 1926.A photo from the Delaware Counts Ohio Historical Society of the original memorial marker placed on the birthplace site of Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th US President. The photo is from the early 1940s. Behind the marker gas pumps and a gas truck can be seen. The original marker was a bronze plaque on a granite headstone type plinth. It was placed in 1926 by the Delaware City Chapter, NSDAR.

The chapter attempted to purchase the property from Standard Oil in the summer of 1921, but struck a deal with the company instead. They worked with John D. Rockefeller for five years to save the original building and improve the grounds. Unfortunately, the building was too damaged and could not be saved.

All interested parties made the decision for demolition in the spring of 1926. The marker was created and dedicated that fall. The first gas station on the site opened soon after the dedication. And thus the running joke of President Hayes being born at a gas station was born.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
