This kid rules and it's heartbreaking that she's losing out on a starring role in her senior year because of chickenshit administrators. The fact that she's educated enough to call out that this is a Title IX violation is a credit to her being more educated than the people who made this decision.

Went to Philly for the long weekend, bracing myself to be pissed off in the old city (guys in oakley shades, t-shirts reciting the constitution they'd rather shred etc.) and only spotted an elderly vet in a rainbow "we the people" hat. It's getting awfully quiet out there, whatever that means.

This is incredible. I tell people that France is the place for me because of the cheese and wine and cigarettes and art and bad attitude but it's also because this kind of behavior is French as hell too.

Found this 1952 menu for Tavern on the Green while kicking rocks online - it's telling that (as NYC has gone batshit insane on revivalism) the thing that captures my imagination the most is the cheese and crackers.

I think that Dolly Parton was, for a lot of people, an ambassador of the "good" values people think of about the South: kindness, hospitality, can-do spirit, sharp and witty and down to earth. I think for a segment of people, too, she was theantithesis of a lot of noxious masculine country stuff.

This was a satisfying read.
What’s happened to going to the Walgreens or Target is a store-sized version of what’s happened to living in America. It’s the experience of being subject to the decisions of a ruling class that responds to every challenge with authoritarianism, greed, and the same levels of poise and wisdom as an inbred Pomeranian.

It is genuinely heartbreaking to see all of the people losing SNAP benefits. In West Virginia, 14,000 SNAP participants have lost their benefits. In Arizona, it’s 500,000. That’s not a typo. Half a million people in AZ no longer have nutrition assistance. Republicans strike again.
