How are they able to do this is a good question. Traditionally, use of IRS data by others is not permitted without statutory permission. I figured this came through the OBBBA, and IRS is part of Treasury, but the last line here suggests some creative lawerly reinterpretation was needed.
How is the Treasury authorized to create an account for my child?
The big tax and policy bill that Congress passed in July 2025 added a section to the federal tax code — known as 530A — that gave the Treasury permission to create children’s initial accounts. This week, the I.R.S. issued temporary rules that accelerate that process, while also proposing final rules that allow the public to comment.

The Trump administration had been under pressure from policymakers, philanthropists and researchers who study such accounts to automatically enroll children, based on a variety of research showing that low-earning families particularly benefit when children are automatically enrolled in investment accounts.

But the administration had to come up with a structure that would allow the creation of individual accounts while also adhering to rules that say federal tax return information must remain confidential. The Treasury and I.R.S. had previously believed that was a major hurdle.

"In other words, the people who are the most 'polarized' in the U.S. electorate are those who are racist and sexist, and those who oppose racists and sexists."
Screenshot of article which reads: These numbers are relatively similar between Democrats and Repub-
licans, which often leads political pundits to claim this is more evidence
of “polarization,” and that both sides are equally to blame. However,
a closer look tells a more interesting story. The people who are most
likely to vilify and dehumanize their partisan opponents are Republicans
who are high in racism and sexism and Democrats who oppose racism
and sexism. The people who are least likely to vilify and dehumanize
their political opponents are Republicans who are low in racism and sex-
ism. One explanation for these patterns is that those Republicans who
are racist and sexist vilify and dehumanize Democrats because they see
the Democratic Party as a party of racial minorities and women; and
Democrats who score low in racism and sexism will vilify and dehu-
manize Republicans because they consider Republicans to be racist and
sexist. In other words, the people who are the most “polarized” in the
U.S. electorate are those who are racist and sexist, and those who op-
pose racists and sexists.

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

Phlyarologist [FLY-uh-ROL-uh-jist] (n.) - A person who habitually talks nonsense; a babbler or purveyor of foolish, meaningless talk. Used in a sentence: “After three brandies, Lord Bandyshanks had regressed from a deipnosophist into a phlyarologist of Munchausenian magnitude.”
A "Grandiloquent Word of the Day" meme for “Phlyarologist,” defined as “a person who habitually talks nonsense; a babbler or purveyor of foolish, meaningless talk.” The example sentence reads: “After three brandies, Lord Bandyshanks had regressed from a deipnosophist into a phlyarologist of Munchausenian magnitude.” At right, a black-and-white illustration shows an animated storyteller gesturing dramatically before the king, and a group of armored knights, who listen with varying degrees of fascination and skepticism.
