It's PJ Harvey's birthday … so I looked through my photos of her from SXSW in 2009 and found some shots I've never posted before.

Took a (very) rainy walk through the Loop tonight. I was absolutely soaked, but my camera stayed dry enough.

This idea for a freight-rail bypass for Atlanta is amazing! I was lucky enough to be part of the group that got a presentation of it and I was instantly sold. It creates opportunities for new passenger rail by diverting freight trains out of the city. saportareport.com/vision-to-dr...

Hello from Northern Spain #eclipse
A total solar eclipse hangs low over a rural Spanish landscape, the dark disc of the Moon surrounded by the Sun’s glowing corona. Hazy evening light washes across rolling fields and distant hills, with scattered trees and a solitary church silhouetted beneath the eclipsed Sun.

At least someone else has heard the same: “According to anecdotal history, Georgia established enough counties so that a farmer traveling by mule-drawn buggy could go to the county seat, take care of business, and return to his farm in the same day.” www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/cou...

In KY (120 counties), a teacher told us that we have that many because the next county seat was meant to be reachable in a day if traveling by horse.

AOC is right ofc. We're stuck with the QTS data center behemoth on the #GApol Beltline now. But at least it would pay $42M in taxes in 2026. Come to find Assessors staff reverted to <$2M without telling their board. Will the board insist on correcting it back, so at least Atlanta gets fair revenue?

We've got to think about transit from a holistic perspective: That means not just funding transit lines, but also building homes. One way to do that is to help communities land bank for development around stations ⏬ It would be great to see this concept included in future legislation.

Kemp always surprised me with how progressive his raises have been for state employees, like the flat $5k raise in 2022. I don’t know much about this bill, but it seems consistent that he’d vote against a percentage-based raise that benefits the high earners more. (Sb339 had no cap)

Good point about the single ride! It just surprised me that the high frequency 2 has zero bus connections on the east end. And with the route change, the walk to transfer via the Moreland underpass was longer than I expected. Live and learn!

Can any MARTA riders explain the logic of having the 2 go to candler instead of Inman (where the 51 and south Moreland connectors all go - 4, 32, 74)? I thought it was to serve the Target / Kroger shopping center but the route stays north of DeKalb and doesn’t do that anymore.
