I didn’t realize that Chicago shared some building permit rules with the 14th century Prague In Chicago you must start building within 6 months of permit and you can extend it up to 18 months

NEW TOWN OF PRAGUE
On 8 March 1348, Czech King Charles issued the founding charter of New Town of Prague, and subse-quently, on 26 March, the foundation stone of the new settlement was laid. Over the next twenty years, in excess of 650 new houses, especially in the area between St.
Catherine's Church and St. Henry's Church, were built, new churches were founded on an unprecedentedly large area of 3.6 km2, and many church institutions were established in the southern part of the city. Charles's generous and timeless foundation had all the attributes of a modern project. The sovereign bought up the required areas from their original owners in advance, and had the area carefully and methodically measured out into individual locations. Not only the detailed plan of the city, but also the width of the streets - the streets of New Town measured an even twenty metres, compared to streets that were 3.5-7 metres wide, as was common at that time - show the premeditation of the city builder's urban plan. Lively building activities immediately commenced upon the foundation of the city. All burghers had to commence building within a month after estate allotment, and under penalty of property confiscation, they had to finish building the house within 18 months.
Charles saw to it that existing rights of inhabitants of other cities were confirmed, but he also offered such benefits regarding fees, taxes and other financial burdens to the future builders of the new settlement that he attracted many truly enterprising people to the settlement. Noisy and other difficult crafts had to be concentrated in emptier areas of New Town. The town was also newly fortified using the trends of the time, with the walls of New Town protecting the whole of Prague from the east. Until the second half of the 19th century, New Town comfortably met its own needs within its limited area.

Speaking more broadly, I don't think the coalition would enjoy aldermanic prerogative being on the chopping block, but it would be a good first step towards fixing the city's finances. So much money is wasted and so much opportunity is missed because everything in this damn city is ad hoc.

Nextbike is a pretty good bike sharing system in Germany but the zone rules are quite annoying the yellow zones cost €1 and the red zones cost more (as a penalty) it’s not clear how far into the street the yellow zones extend so I’ve been going to the “P” spots that are carved out
