this version of the red scare is so funny because in the og red scare they at least tried to make communism seem scary by lying but now they just yell the ways socialism will materially improve your life in a scary voice

Pete Hegseth is actually doing very normal heteropatriarchal gender enforcement. He is using the power of the govt and his cis masculinity to decide for everybody what their gender will look like and do.

There's two kinds of disputes: "I didn't make this charge" would result in a locked and replaced card. "I did make this charge but the company never sent me the item" or similar type of complaint wouldn't.

What people need to understand is that this is solely in response to an executive order. No law or regulation has changed. If Trump writes another executive order targeting adults tomorrow, trans people cannot trust that our state and local governments will fight for us when they won't for youth.

This is one of the reasons “we can’t run AOC” makes zero sense. The gop accused Bill Clinton of being a secret communist! They said Obamacare was socialism! The underlying policy just doesn’t matter, they’ll always make this attack. So why don’t we run someone who believes in things?

there is a limit at which we are so clearly not in a democracy that you can't actually shame me into thinking I should be better than them, especially when being better than them is destroying civil rights. idk when that limit was but it is in the rearview mirror now. "fuck you, make me" is here.

I feel like 5 minutes is enough restriction to not need to *also* limit to just one edit—especially if the version history will be visible. I usually notice typos within that 5 minute limit but not necessarily all at once. And I'm definitely prone to butchering a sentence while trying to correct it

I got it because I've been working my way through anything Moira Quirk narrates. I was disappointed at first that she only narrates *some* of it and most of the book is from a man's POV which I honestly don't read much lately lol. But it still sucked me in and the other narrator was also good!

I did the Amex presale too, and prices were higher than I expected but I noticed that even though I don't have a "preferred" card, it kept trying to show me all the "preferred" seats—which were those $450-$700 ones. Once I changed the filters I found more reasonable options (but still pretty high!)

John Lewis had John Roberts' number from the jump: takebackthecourt.substack.com/p/john-lewis...
Take Back the Court REP. JOHN LEWIS: In 1965, Jurist Roberts was only 10-years-old. He may be a brilliant lawyer, but I wonder whether he can really understand the depth of what it took to get the Voting Rights Act passed. The right to vote is precious, almost
sacred. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society. As many of you know, I gave a little blood on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, but some
of my friends and colleagues gave all they had, their very lives for the right to vote. I feel that if Judge Roberts is confirmed to be the Chief Justice of the United States, the Supreme Court would no longer hear the people's cries for justice. I feel that the leadership of the Court will promote politics over the protection of individual rights and liberties. If the Federal Courts had abandoned us in the civil rights movement in the name of judicial restraint, we might still be struggling with the
burden of legal segregation in America today. Jurist Roberts's memos reveal him to be hostile towards civil rights, affirmative action and the Voting Rights Act. He has even said that Voting Rights Act
violations, and I quote, "should not be made too easy to prove.'

One of the most clarifying passages I've ever read on what "polarization" actually means in the U.S."
Excerpt from the book How Democracies Die.

"America's democratic norms, then, were born in a context of exclusion. As long as the political community was restricted largely to whites, Democrats and Republicans had much in common. Neither party was likely to view the other as an existential threat. The process of racial inclusion that began after World War II and culminated in the 1964 Civil Rights Act and 1965 Voting Rights Act would, at long last, fully democratization the United States. But it would also polarized it, posing the greatest challenge to established forms of mutual tolerating and forbearance since Reconstruction."
