My 19th this season and my least favourite tbh. The Tallis was good and the performances were excellent. But as the the man two seats way said, you weren't going to come away from the Vaughan Williams symphony humming the tune.

They are the BBC Proms, its own festival, of course it is going to promote it. They also need to maximise the amount of broadcast time they can achieve from it.

How could it move funding from the Proms, without reducing the length of the Proms season?

I can remember being in a big Tetley's pub in Leeds, they had just had a tanker delivery of Mild that was chilled for transport. It was that good that we drank the entire tank in a couple of hours. The manager didn't believe the staff when they told him the Mild had run out.

As this says, we really, really need the Pendolinos replacing at the end of their lives, with the latest tilting trains. Without that journey times north of Birmingham, and especially north of Preston, will be worse than now. And that's half of the distance London to Glasgow.

Something I don't think the UK boasts about enough - and a great rebuttal to Reform and the Tories' anti-net zero propaganda: The UK is home to 7 out of the top 10 biggest offshore wind farms in the world. 10 of the top 20. And 6 in 10 of the largest ones in the world currently under construction.

2 in 5 arrested over last summer’s riots had been reported for domestic abuse
Police data indicates overlaps between public violent disorder and domestic violence and abuse Two out of every five people arrested after participating in last summer’s riots had been previously reported to the police for domestic abuse, the Guardian can disclose. Police data released under freedom of information (FoI) laws shows that 41% of 899 people arrested for taking part in the violent disorder last July and August had been reported for crimes associated with intimate partner violence. No other UK broadcaster or streaming service could and would do this, IMO. Free to hear+see (no extra charges) universally available. The #BBC is funded by <47p (c60 US cents) a day per UK household licence fee. This is what national #publicservicebroadcasting can do to help citizens.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.
Excerpt from a public letter Roald Dahl wrote encouraging people to vaccinate their children.

Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to recovery, I was sitting on her bed showing her how to fashion little animals out of coloured pipe-cleaners, and when it came to her turn to make one herself, I noticed that her fingers and her mind were not working together and she couldn’t do anything.

“Are you feeling all right?” I asked her.

“I feel all sleepy,” she said.

In an hour, she was unconscious. In twelve hours she was dead.

The measles had turned into a terrible thing called measles encephalitis and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her. That was twenty-four years ago in 1962, but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly reaction from measles as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her.

On the other hand, there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. They can insist that their child is immunized against measles. I was unable to do that for Olivia in 1962 because in those days a reliable measles vaccine had not been discovered. Today a good and safe vaccine is available to every family and all you have to do is to ask your doctor to administer it.
