The biggest problem with integralism, I think, is they just want a moral justification for fascism. They don't want a Catholic state in order to promote virtue, evangelization, and care for the needy. They aren't even assuading a guilty conscience. They want it to be praised for pious aesthetics

I think the thing that infuriates me the most about “Rationalization” is how often Conservatives claim you “can’t prove” their actions are responsible for causing harm. “Yes. We voted to strip millions of people of their SNAP benefits but you can’t PROVE we played a role in them starving to death.”

This would certainly explain a lot of the behavior that drove me away from fandoms. Seeing otherwise decent people get publicly dragged for even mild disagreement was the final straw.

This is definitely something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently. Easy to see why conspiracy theorists were once seen as mostly harmless stock characters, even sometimes underdogs. But everything that’s happened the last ten years has really soured the trope.
