Isn’t it wildly ableist that autistic people can get in trouble for following the rule of laws as they’re written? Surely we should be allowed to do crimes so long as they’re by the letter of the law

The librarians on horseback bringing reading material to the remote corners of the Kentucky mountains showed an imagination and investment in people that we could do with more of today. The project was central to The Giver of Stars by novelist Jojo Moyes.

My wife asked me to thin out my book collection (a very reasonable request) and I can tell we’ve been in library land too long because I asked her to give me a goal in linear feet to weed.

Given my pronoun (she), my livelihood (selling), my proximity to the coast (spitting distance from the seashore), it would surely be a missed opportunity not to order this in. Also, it looks divine.

A Fianna Fáil wolf (Charlie Haughey and Dev on the wall) wearing pince nez reads a newspaper and replies to his wife discussing Michael Collins’s wolf slippers:

“I don’t give a shite what was on his slippers, Martha: I will not have that man spoken of in this house”

Sometimes you autism so hard you accidentally bring historical congruity to How to Train Your Dragon: Rescue Riders
So the tv show my kids are watching is in the How to Train your Dragon Universe, but the background music they play has strong Irish influences and the town they're in is called Huttsgalore.
Galore is a word of Irish origins (from "go leor," meaning "lots"), so I was initially upset about this sloppy appropriation of Irish elements in a show about vikings until I looked up the etymology of the word "hut". Turns out there's a language called Fingallian that was spoken in Fingal and is a variation of Middle English that came to be spoken following the Norman invasion, so the show actually takes place in Ireland, specifically near Fingal.
So this is almost certainly an accidental constellation of facts, but my hope is that a scholar of mediaeval Ireland has now been fully justified in the effort they put into the show

I was lucky enough to win an advance copy of @mytholder.bsky.social’s upcoming book The Dungeon Book, and look at the gorgeous prose in it
East the dragon flew. Pine trees on the heights bent under the wind of his passage. The mountains before him, then the mountains beneath him. Swift are the wings of dragons, mighty their claws, fierce their wrath, but greater than all these is their pride. I suspect Nithscalpa would have objected to any description that implied the mountains, however magnificent or perilous, might in any way compete with his glory. So, let us agree the mountains were unremarkable piles of dull rock flecked with snow that in no way blazed like fire in the rosy-gold dawn, and that they remained wholly unremarkable even as he wheeled down towards the tower that stood then and stands now on the edge of a crevasse.
